Hi,

I got in as a transfer student (Biochem major) and was wondering what types of paths SBU sciencs grads take after graduation. Do they have a hard time finding jobs at labs or pharmaceutical companies? (which i doubt because SBU's science department is great!) how about grad school? and med/dental school? i know that this is a kinda too vague/general question, but please help!

Thanks.

I haven’t replied because you’re right, your question is way too general. I can tell you that almost 95% of our Class of 2007 is either in grad school or working, but in terms of a departmental breakdown, I don’t know.

The SBU science grads I know are mostly in good shape–a vague answer for a vague question :)

The people I know who wanted to work in labs and industry have been able to do so, though it’s gotten harder lately. Biochemists and chemists have an easier time snagging those jobs than us biologists, for the most part. I don’t know anyone from SB going to grad school for biochem, but I know a bunch of people in really good molecular bio, neurobio, and evolution programs. Med school I don’t really know stats for… most people I know who plan on med school are taking a year or two out of school to get some more life experience and perspective before diving into another intense academic experience.

Thank you guys so much! it really helped =)
