I’m wondering how many National Merit employees are watching and chuckling as we scramble to find information that they have but chose not to send out. We were in FL when my D16 got this and it was quick and easy. Now for my S19 we are in MD and even though we know his SI it’d be nice to have confirmation.
You should be able to call NM tomorrow to get information about SF status if your school has not released it. (You could call today, but I think they’ve all gone home.)

We live in Ohio. My son’s principal received a letter on 8/22 stating he was a NMSF. It stated the principal could feel free to tell my son that he was a semifinalist yet the official notification would be when the media received news releases on 9/12. By 7am yesterday (9/12) his school had put it on the social media outlets & on the school website. We’ve seen nothing in our local newspaper nor anywhere else the Ohio list of semi finalists. Those that are looking for confirmation should contact their principal who should have been notified 2 weeks ago!!
Try messaging your local news station. I messaged mine on Facebook and they sent me the list for Northern Panhandle. I haven’t found a news release for WV yet though.
@AlexS83 some principals wait until the official date to notify, and some wait even later. Just because they have the notice, doesn’t mean they do. So, since our schools are closed right now, we still wait… NM calls or someone finding these press releases could be our only way to confirm for apps that could potentially be sent out this weekend
I haven’t seen my son’s name published in a local listing (no local listing published yet), but he did receive an NMSC letter (dated 8/21/18!) last week from his college counselor that said only the Principal of his high school, he and his parents knew so far, and that media would be informed on 9/12. I agree, it’s annoying to still not have something published after keeping quiet about it until today! What is the big secret, anyway?

Do we know what the cut off scores are for each state? My kid missed 3 questions on the whole exam and is not on the list. He and another boy scored well above the predicted scores based on prior years but we’re shocked to see neither of them listed as semi-finalists.
Does anyone have a list for NC (Raleigh) area?
@prariejane If you Google Compass Prep National Merit, a blog post of all the cutoffs is there. Also, there is a thread on here that has them.
Have your son and his friend check their PSAT report from the College Board. On one of the pages, there is a Selection Index listed. Right below that, it says, “Eligibility Information” and will say, “You meet entry requirements . . .” I think if they filled something out wrong or don’t meet the requirements, there is an asterisk by the Selection Index, but don’t quote me on that.
There’s also information on the College Board NM Selection area about how to contact them if you had a qualifying score but didn’t get NMSF. At this stage it’s just the SI number - if your son met it for your state and his school wasn’t notified it’s worth contacting them.

I called the National Merit Scholarship phone number here: (847) 866-5100. They connected me to another department who searched my child’s name and DOB. They were able to tell me whether or not he was a semi-finalist this morning.

@endora75 I followed your lead and did the same. They confirmed she was NMSF and they gave me the name of the advisor at my D’s school who has the names/letters, so my D can go talk with her to get her log in info. Why our HS and state has yet to publicly release the names is frustrating. Deadline for NMF app is Oct 10th.
