No our guidance counselor will not tell you your rank. We’ve had a number of local suicides. Our guidance counselors are very sensitive to the issue.
Wow, all you “old timers” like me must have gone to impressive high schools. Not only did I not know or care about who was “top 10”, “Val” “Sal” (did my high school even do that? I have no clue), but I honestly think very few in my high school cared. We were just your typical mediocre high school in the 70s where kids either went to the local state school, the local community college, or into trade.
@Chb088 Same at our private high school and many in our area (I hear from friends) - Naviance is kept up in a meticulous manner and very accurate. There are a lot of controls and management of the data through the guidance counselors which makes it a super useful tool. When data is solid for 5-10 years, it is really good/interesting info for students and parents.
The education foundation in our school district sponsors an annual banquet for the students in the top 5% of each public HS and the names are published. In addition, the local HS announces the top 10 at graduation.
Our school gives out zero information officially. The student newspaper last edition for the year gives kids the option to report were they are attending. Some do some don’t.
In addition to using Naviance, our school newspaper also reports on where kids are going (as self-reported by the students). Every year they create the “Senior Map” that shows by state and then by school within the state which students are attending each school. I enjoy reading it each year just to see where the kids end up.
Bethesda magazine (Montgomery County, MD) reports each year on a bunch of the public high schools. They report number applied and accepted but not enrolled. http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Bethesda-Magazine/September-October-2017/College-Bound/index.php?cparticle=3&siarticle=2#artanc
