Where do you keep all your expensive things?

Digicams, Ipods, Laptops, money, etc? I know that things are hardly stolen from your dorm room if you're smart enough to lock the door when you're not in the room, etc, but what if you have an irresponsible roommate? Is it worth it to buy a safe with a combination or something?

I did not buy a safe, and I keep those things out on my desk most of the time. If you keep your door locked and don't invite sketchy people in, then if things go missing, it's probably your roommate, and since you live with this person, it's going to be easy to either catch them at it or confront them about it. A friend of mine had a problem with her roommate stealing a bunch of stuff, and actually had to have her arrested, but I think most people are not dumb enough to steal from their roommates because it's easy to get caught.

put things in a suitcase, inside a suitcase, and lock it

Here's a few suggesstions:

RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS IN DORMS
Put it in a place that can be locked. If that's not possible, put it in your underwear and put that pair in the back of your drawer. Alternately use your car if you've got one (see below).

COMMUTER STUDENTS
I always keep my stuff in my car. I've hidden stuff in the spare tire compartment (I have a sedan), glove compartment (which has a lock), a hidden compartment in my door, or on the floor under something like a ski cap (sometimes I'll put the iPod in the hat). Whatever isn't with me is at home, which isn't well protected since my golden retriever is a horrible guard dog (too friendly).

IN THE GYM
Use your own lock, put the stuff you're not using in the locker room, and never let your iPod out of your sight if you work out with it (I do all the time).

IN THE CAFETERIA
Never put things in the bookracks. I always have people guard my calculator when I get my food unless it's in my pocket. I've been known to go through cafeteria lines with my laptop case in my hand.

AT THE LIBRARY
Always keep it with you. See above.

GENERAL TIPS
Consolidation is good so you will only have one thing to keep track of. I did a lot of video work in high school and always had my camcorder in its case with me. I put my calculator in the case so I could take that with me if I was going somewhere and leave other stuff like folders behind. Today I use my laptop case in a similar fashion. Of course, I also had a laptop to lug around in high school every now and then.

In the dorm room, my laptop stays on my desk, locked to it. Buy a laptop lock, and hook it to part of your desk. My purse has very little money in it (if I need cash, the ATM is a short walk from my dorm), but pretty much my life in it (license, debit card, etc). I keep it in my desk drawer, hidden. My digital camera is in another desk drawer. I can't imagine it's worth much though. I don't really have any other valuables. I do have one bracelet and a necklace at school, and just like at home I keep them in my underware drawer. Those are more valuable to me than to anyone else though (more personal than monetary).
We keep our dorm room locked, and I live in the honors dorm. I have yet to hear of a single incident involving burglary in my dorm, and most people will leave their door unlocked to go talk to a friend for a couple minutes, go to the bathroom, etc. I think locking your door is key.

I just lock my door. Problem solved. And then if I want, i'll keep the door open when i'm inside.

my dorm is pretty safe. just lock your room door. i have a lock on my laptop thats the only thing i really worry about losing.
