If you're living in the dorms where do you keep your valuable?

I bought a safe. I dont want any of my stuff to get stolen.

but what if they take your safe?

don't bring anything valuable?

yeah i dont know if i should put every valuable thing in the safe. if they take the safe, im screwed whereas if they take one thing im not as screwed.

i was wondering the same thing myself. i guess you just have to trust your roommates to lock the door on their way out. it's proper roommate etiquette. you guys (to be pc, people) generally make some sort of contract, is what i've heard, in the first week that lays down all the rules.

Yeah, you do have to write up a little something that basically says "close the door when you're out, be responsible, etc.". I wouldn't rely on that, though. Just hope you get a good roommate and won't have to worry about it. I never worried about my valuables and they're all still with me.

Don't store too much cash in your dorm. Try to make use of your Cal 1 card. If you need to use money off campus, then get a credit card or an ATM card.

can you buy stuff with a cal 1 card? with you're points i mean?

Those points are only good towards meals. If you want to buy other stuff on campus, you can transfer money to your Cal 1 card and use it as a debit card.

Where all does the Cal 1 card work? I know the Free Speech Movement Cafe is now accepting the cards.

Cal 1 Card also works at the Cal Student Store and all campus restaurants / dining commons (if you don't have any meal points, that is). It's also used for laundry and vending machines in the dorms.

Most of your stuff should be pretty safe as long as you keep the door shut and you don't have sketchy roommates when you aren't in the room. Don't worry about having to lock stuff up when you leave. That theft crap they feed you at CalSO is way overblown.

What happens when it's your roommate and his/her friends who are stealing from you?

You kick the crap outta them, take your stuff back, and see if you can switch rooms.

close your windows when you leave, even if you have a screen. there have been incidents where people have climbed in thru the windows and/or slashed the screens to get in.

Usc had a pilot program last year for student safes. 4 companies were invited to install their products and let the students decide what they wanted. University safe co was the overwhelming choice. the safe mounts on the wall and is only 5 " thick. It has a corkboard-mirror on the front and a dropslot for mail. CD's ect and you can recharge laptops and cell phones while they are locked inside. it can be seen at notebooksafe.com. they offered to install them for students for $105.00 per year.

I leave my stuff in a drawer, no locks are anything, I'm going by the if you steal my stuff, then I beat the crap out of you and switch rooms approach.

you should see the size of the football players ay usc

Can you please add a new section to these posts? After you've posted where you keep your valuables, could you please say where you live and when, exactly, you will be out of your room? THanks.
