where do you sit in class?

Hey i start college in a couple of weeks and i was just wondering where you guys sit in your classes? Does it matter where you sit? For instance, if you sit near the front will you recieve more attention from your professors...i'm just curious. any feedback will be appreciated!

Just sit where you can hear/see the board well, I don't think being close or far away has much impact on attention.

As long as you're vocal and involved you should get plenty of attention.

Sit where the professor can see you and you make sure you ask questions. The professor should know your first name after the first month. trust me, will help a ton for any class. shows you care and they will care too, when grading!

I always sit in the front. I don't really know why. I don't think professors care where you sit - they'll notice you if you speak up and ask questions every once in a while, regardless of where you are.

I usually sit in the front, but to see the board better. I also find that I pay attention a bit more in the front.

My friends Dad teaches at a local state uni and says that students who sit in the back (in his class) tend to do poorly.

I sit in the far back right corner of the classroom. I sit away from the wannabes.

The professors won't think you're a delinquent automatically. I hibernate in the corner of my classrooms and I come up to the professor after class and ask good questions and we chat.

In the big lecture classes, I usually sit in the middle close-ish to the front. I don't like sitting in exactly the front row, but I still need to be able to see the board... in small classrooms, it doesn't really matter where you sit because the prof can still talk to you wherever you are in the room. I usually sit in like the second row then. (mostly just so I have a desk for a foot prop in front of me)

Some professors let you pick your own seat on the first day, but you have to stay there for at least a while if attendance is taken, so the professor can memorize which faces go with which names. After they know everyone, you can usually sit wherever. I sit towards the front, but not in the front row.

Far back for me.

90% of As come from people in first 2 rows according to a CMU counselor... doubt its that high but there is a relatively meaningful correlation b/t where u sit and ur grade

I know my mind is more likely to wander if I'm in the back, where little things can distract me.

I plan on sitting in the second row of all of my classes if I have the option to. But that's just me...

Little closer to the front than the middle of the room and slightly off center. Away from people who talk a lot.
With a direct line of sight to the professor/board.

I go for the 3rd or 4th row. I sit in basically the same seat every class. Teachers end up always knowing my face, if not my name.

I sit with friends so we can discuss what's going on.

1st or 2nd row. I can't hear incredibly well though.

Right in the middle.

middle is preferable for me.

wow, thanks for all your responses guys. they are really helpful :D
