Where does an english major get you?

I'm really interested in studying english and maybe majoring in it despite the wishes of my family. So what careers are open to me?

Writer; Professor/Teacher; Journalist(a lot of aspiring writers look for commissions from newspapers because it’s hard for a new writer); probably Entertainment Business.

with an English major you might as well go into Journalism also. So you can become an English professor, reporter, an author, etc.

Med schools & law schools accept English majors and many businesses hire them because writing well is so important.

Rallying at socialist protests usually.

middle school teacher, mcdonalds, secretary…

i mean, english majors are a dime a dozen, so the job competition is really fierce.

grimey! shaking my head worthless jobs

teach english abroad

teach english in junior high/high school/professor

writer

editor like those peple who proofread

librarian

write scripts

ummmm

museum tour guide

write essays that other people buy from you

tutor

book critic

those people who write plays

The employment office.

I kid, I kid.

a starving writer.

English Major:

Writer
Journalist
Teacher

The list pretty much ends there. If it’s your passion, it’s not your fault 'cause you were born with it so what are you doing to do about it. However, you have to remember the salaries attached to these jobs… much less than 50,000 a year.

So if you can honestly say you’d be happy with that, then hey…

If you’re aspiring to be a writer, then it might be wise to major in something other than English. Many famous authors did not major in English, and if you look in the past, many of them were doctors, lawyers, salesmen, etc. With a stable job, you’re spared the necessity of having to make money through writing which will allow you much more creative freedom.

wow…so I’m never going to major in English.

…a cardboard box?

Four years of happiness. A broad education full of diverse ideas. A more open mind.

Exactly. FOUR years of happiness.

The rest of the years are spend with financial hardships, scarcity, and whatnot but hey… four years of happiness man…

But again, if that’s what you’re truly into, then you pretty much have no choice… Unless you go for the rest of the years of happiness with another major…

fizix forgot to tell you that your mind will be open enough that your brains fall out :D…

i’m doomed

Hahaha. A cardboard box insulated with newspaper. The good news is (no pun intended), the english major will be able to critically read said newspaper, unlike most hobos.

You will have a 50% chance of having sex in college.
