Where does Cornell Rank?

Where does Cornell rank among the ivies? in notoration, respect, Prestige ...

probably 7th or 8th in all

I would like to think Cornell garners more respect than Brown and maybe UPenn. I know that many people (at least where I come from) consider Brown the least serious of the ivies, or as my latin teacher says "the bastard stepchild of the ivies". With UPenn, I think it is probably an equal institution with Cornell, but has a much less recognizable name, so maybe that effects it. Really its hard to say, because within the ivy league there is so much diversity (you couldn't compare a major research university like Cornell to Dartmouth). In the end, all the ivy leagues are top top schools with tons of prestige, and the difference between them is pretty minimal.

I'd say that Harvard, Princeton and Yale are a slight notch above the remaining 5. As for the remaining 5, I guess it depends who you ask. Cornell is anywhere between #4 and #8 overall...although Engineers would say it is the #1 Ivy.

I think harvard, yale, princeton, are the top.
bottom because i didn't know and many people don't know outside the northeast Upenn and dartmouth are ivies and maybe brown. so cornell and columbia are in the middle.

I know people who haven't heard of Dartmouth. People from my high school didn't regard Brown as prestigious. Columbia was below HYP. I'd say people from my school regarded Penn as slightly more pretigious than Cornell. So, 6th?

I never heard of Dartmouth before I began my college search.
People around here think UPenn and PennState are the same school. Haha

i think Cornell looses alot of credit due to its staggering 27% acceptance rate. People from my school usually dont consider brown prestigious, Upenn vs. Penn state?? many didnt know there was a difference. Columbia's only big advantage is its location. I'd consider HYP the top three ivies, but i'd pick Cornell over any others.

im an engineer--cornell is by far my best option for engineering--mit doesnt have enough normal people, all the cal schools and souther schools were out of it--left cornell as #1

i love upenn. i respect it anyway- it's a lot tougher (i've heard) than people give it credit for. all three of my cousins went to wharton. i've been wondering, where does cornell rank in the general scheme of things? my friend's mother thinks duke is better than cornell and i just wanted to die- i saw a list of rankings and i think it said cornell is 13. any other ideas?

my european friends have never heard of Dartmouth, Brown, UPenn, or Columbia. I think especially with Dartmouth and Brown, those 2 are prolly seriously off the radar when it comes to international students. Of course the whole world knows Harvard, Yale, Princeton, but i would put Cornell 4th next to them just cause i was surprised by how many people knew of the college who were not even close to the northeast. and macalesterhopeful, the 13th that U.S. Weekly tags on won't make much of a difference if people around the world still regard cornell as a good school.

well when my brother's friend told him that i was an idiot for choosing Cornell over Northwestern b/c Northwestern is MUCH better, my heart kinda sank a lil.

UPenn is Penn State with a business school, right? lol, jk..... Why are people so concerned with Cornell's prestige? Tell someone you're going to Cornell, watch their eyes become quarter sized, and their jaw hit the floor... that's enough, don't ya think? Cornell is the best in the WORLD at MANY things (i.e.: one of the top for engineering, aerospace, Industrial and Labor Relations, Hotel Admin., Veterinary Medicine...).

A degree from Cornell is like the Purple Heart of college degrees-people will respect you! If you're concerned with post-undergrad studies, or career moves, you will be in good hands with all the student services offered at Cornell.

I came from Hong Kong 1.5 years ago. Before, i never heard Dartmouth and Brown. my ranking of lvies is: 1.harvard, 2.yale, 3.pricenton, 4.columbia, 5.Cornell, UPenn. 7. Brown and Dartmouth. Even my mother, who is completely innocent about american education system, knows Cornell. I love Cornell !!

Well here in Canada the majority of people don't know what the hell the Ivy League is, and people who know only know of Harvard, Yale, and Princeton =/
So yeah, I have to get into Cornell and advertise!

"well when my brother's friend told him that i was an idiot for choosing Cornell over Northwestern b/c Northwestern is MUCH better, my heart kinda sank a lil."

Northwestern is ranked lower than Cornell when it comes to public opinion--which is what we're basically talking about. We're discussing prestige as it is interpreted by the average joe, or somewhat saavy student/parent. Well in that case, Cornell beats Northwestern. Furthermore, I believe Cornell beats Northwestern in terms of cold, hard college quality--that is at least in the way I interpret quality in a school.

i would put Cornell far above Northwestern in terms of prestige--id never heard of northwestern till i started the college process

bball is just a disgruntled Cornell student who seems to dislike all things Cornell.

ya I 2nd the Northwestern thing w/ Cornell

Oh yeah...about bball...one thing I don't get is how he has the right to complain about people not being smart enough at Cornell when he isn't even at the top of our class...
