Ok, so.....I'm not sure were I'm at. I have two nominations (not up on CIS yet) and am going to CWV in March. But today I got an application in the mail for the foundation....also I'm yet to recieve my quailfied letter, but I know someone with lower ACT's then me that got one. I'm just not sure were this puts me.

I got a Foundation application as well. As they put it in the letter, it's an insurance policy if you don't get a direct appointment. It in no way affects the status of your application--it is simply a backup. I've also gotten a nomination, and my December SAT scores were better than ever. I've been told my application may or may not go before the board before my Semester grades are sent in and reviewed. So, no qualified letter for me just yet either.

My SAT's were 700 V/710M. I expect my GPA to be around a 3.9 by the time semester grades go in.

Stay focused on school, and try not to worry too much--there's not much any of us can do at this point but wait and see.

Doug

Try to ask your Blue and Gold officer about the Naval Academy Prep school. The Foundation option is good.....anything is better than gettign rejected.

Doug1,
Nice job on the Dec. SATs! My daughter is also captain of her varsity tennis team. You must be tough, playing tennis in Nevada! Her triple Q'd letter arrived in the mail today.

wstcoastmom--

Thanks--and congrats to your daughter for her triple Q'd letter! I got a letter yesterday from USNA advising of my Congressional nomination. I knew already, but it was nice to receive it. Tennis in Las Vegas in the summer is hard, but we usually practice early in the morning--this year, we practiced all summer before the season even started.

Doug

hey flynavy05 ~ you're definitely better off than those of us that haven't heard anything so keep up the patience the waiting sucks. Im such a mail fanatic now, like Im always hoping Ill get word soon. Kind of pathetic, I know, but I cant get past the anxiousness. I havent heard about my congressmans nomination, not going to CVW, no LOA, & no foundation app. But remember it is only January still I hope you (and I) hear something soon.

bria*, you didn't receive an invite to CVW? Don't worry, I'm sure you'll hear something soon, especially from your congressman, as I believe they have to have their list in to the Academy by the end of January.

Yippee! I'm exempt from exams this week!

what exactly does a triple qualified letter state?

nope, no CVW for me, unfortunately. My BGO said he thought it was because I'm not as high of a priority as candidates that haven't had the chance to visit the academy yet because I went for Summer Seminar. But I know there's plenty of candidates on this forum that went to SS and are now going (or have gone) to CVW. Oh well.

Yeah, my congressman's committee said that I should know by the 15th...it's coming up quickly! Hopefully it'll be good news...

As a person who went through the foundation program I say accept it if it is offered. I did not get in in the class of 2006 so went to a year of foundation school and entered with the class of 2007. Foundation school gave me a significant step up on those in my class coming straight out of high school. It was a year away from home, an extra year to get in peak physical condition and a chance to take the classes I would be taking plebe year. First semester plebe year was easy for me because I was not concerened with the usual plebe things like adjusting to life away from home and the increase in the amount of schoolwork. Sure its another year before you get in but the estra year is well worth it

When did you find out that you were not accepted and when did you get the foundation offer? I am wondering if it would even be offered to my son because he is already taking AP Chemistry and Calculus in high school so he would have taken those classes twice already before even got to the academy. How does the Foundation differ from the prep school and how do they decide who gets offered what?

I found out in early may I did not get a direct appointment. As far as taking the classes over the foundation schools have programs specifically set up for the foundation program based on the academy courses. The classes I took at foundation school were significantly harder than those in high school but still not as hard as at the academy. Every extra bit helps, it just depends on how bad you really want to come to the academy. Some of my classmates went to college for 2 years before finally getting in and started here as a plebe

Foundation sponsorships are typically offered to strong candidates that the Academy is interested in but that may not rank high enough in the congressional district to earn a direct appointment. My son was offered a sponsorship and he ranked very high in his class and took a full load of AP classes. Competing within your congressional district can be tough, especially in highly competitive areas with many students applying. The Foundation is an excellent way to gain entrance to the Academy if it is your ultimate goal. Invitations to apply for Foundation Sponsorships typically start to arrive around this time of year. If you are presented with the opportunity to apply, I would highly suggest that you contact someone at the Foundation and discuss it with them. They can be very helpful. My son ultimately earned a direct appointment but it is an excellent opportunity for highly motivated individuals.

Please disregard my previous posting. Today my son received a call from our Senator's office informing him that the Naval Academy was offering him an appointment for the class of 2009. Needless to say he is thrilled and we are thrilled for him. This site has been instrumental in keeping us informed and sane during this process. Good luck to all of you!

Congrats doglover ~ Where are you from? Best of luck to your son! JM

we are from north suburban chicago. My son received nominations from Senator Durbin and our local congressman. We were shocked to hear so soon as he did not have a LOA. There must be another round of appointments going out.

what high school is he from? I went to romeoville

That's great~my son's nomination just posted to the web today...he's known for a few weeks. Still waiting on our Senator's nomination list. I doubt he will hear for some time though due to an eye waiver. It does seem that many are hearing earlier than in the past which is wonderful! Enjoy the moment and tell your son to relax and enjoy his senior year now! Good Luck~JM

doglover,

Congratulations to your son! We are also from the north suburbs of Chicago and my daughter received a nomination from our congressman to West Point. Now she's very busy watching the mailbox.

Doglover:

That's great news. I am sure it's a relief to get confirmation now rather than to have to wonder and wait for a couple more months.
