<p>wow torrestowers, what made you leave rice?</p>

<p>Haithman: Does "likely" by Norhtwestern mean that you got a likely letter from them, or is it just your assessment? My son is applying to Northwestern and has not received such a letter is why I am asking. How do you rate diffficulty of admission at Northwestern as compared to UVA? And what is "likley woot" notation by UVA mean? Is that code or a typo? Thanks.</p>

<p>thrills4ever, here is a link to another thread that I started about why I want to transfer from Rice. <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=151273%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=151273&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>Also, I am not sure if I am actually going to transfer. I am really moody and I often let my temporary emotional state affect large aspects of my life.</p>

<p>I'll try to clarify..
I recieved a handwritten note from the assistant dean of admissions at northwestern telling me that they had recieved my application and found it "Very impressive" and it goes on telling me to "relax" and "enjoy the rest of my senior year." Other people have recieved the same note on CC as have others in the past and we made the decision that it was indeed a likely letter/note. I would say the difficulty of admissions OOS UVA vs. Northwestern are comparable but UVA may be a bit tougher as OOS has been compared to some ivy league schools. the "woot" next to likely is just me "wooting" in joy because of the likely lol sorry for any confusion.
Best of luck to your son,
Haitham</p>

<p>Haithman: Thanks for your nice response. Interestingly, both you and my son are in the Maryland pool of UVA and Northwestern applicants. He has received no likely letter from either, but I am optimistic about his chances based on good credentials and - in UVA's case - legacy status. Best of luck to you.</p>
