Where else did you apply?

If you’re an arts/humanities/languages type, what other schools did you like? What schools felt most like Brown?

Thanks.

I also liked:

Amherst
Dartmouth
Vassar
Georgetown
Pomona
Middlebury
Princeton
Yale
Duke
Stanford

^ Good list. I'd also look into Bowdoin, Bates, Wellesley, Smith, Berkeley, Williams, Wesleyan, Swarthmore, Haverford, WUSTL, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, Hamilton, UChicago, Cornell, JHU, Oberlin, Carleton, Grinnell, Macalester, Conn College, Claremont McKenna, Michigan, Harvard.

UChicago and Brown make odd bedfellows, and I know more than one student who has seriously weighed the two schools side by side. Even though Chicago has an extensive core curriculum, it still has a collaborative, countercultural, intellectual feel to it.

Like Brown, UChicago is all about fit.

I like most of Poster_X's list, but I don't see any way CMU, JHU, Cornell, or Hamilton fit in with Brown.

Hmmm. Well, Brown was my top choice at one point (only just edged out in the end). The other schools I liked the most were:

Wesleyan (ended up being top choice)
Carleton
Pomona
Vassar
Oberlin

I was also intrigued by: Yale, Haverford, Reed, Occidental, Skidmore, Northwestern.

Also, there were two girls in my grade who were rejected from Brown (first choice). One ended up choosing Tufts over Carleton and Kalamazoo, and the other chose NYU over Skidmore. Although I don't think NYu is a very Brown like school, you might want to check out Tufts.

Brown, Tufts, Wesleyan are always lumped together (in a good way!) as very free-thinking schools, where undergraduate education is prized (a given for Wes since it's a LAC, but Brown & Tufts are LAC-like universities).

I applied to Brown, Yale, UPenn, Pomona, Vassar, Tufts, Oberlin, WashU, Puget Sound, and Swarthmore.

But I had an odd combination of criteria though. Neuroscience, ceramics, and women's rugby...lol.

thanks! anyone else?

Brown, Harvard, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, GWU, Pitt, and American University.

In order of preference.

Brown, Harvard, Yale, Pomona, Amherst, Bowdoin, Cornell, Dartmouth

Wesleyan, Vassar, Amherst, Oberlin, Pomona, Kenyon, Yale, Princeton, Williams, Harvard, Swarthmore, Macalester, Georgetown, Dartmouth, Stanford, Middlebury.

Brown, Yale, NYU, Columbia, UChicago, Vassar, Wesleyan, Tufts, BU, Carnegie Mellon, McGill
