I'm a senior who lives in New York.
My GPA is around an 88 (my school doesn't calculate out of 4.0)
SAT- 750 Math, 680 CR, 650 Writing
good but not great extra curriculars/teacher recommendations
I'm assuming I'll have a very solid essay since I'm a pretty good writer
I will be going into business/finance, but I don't necessarily need to start off in a business school

I have already applied/am applying to Rutgers and Binghamton as my main options, Macaulay honors program at CUNY as a slight reach, NYU as a big reach, and the CUNY's as my safety's.

Is there anywhere else I should apply? I'd rather the school be near the tristate area and be affordable, but I'll listen to any ideas.

In terms of private schools, you can look into Fordham. I would also look at a couple of other SUNY schools that have business as an undergraduate option ex. SUNY Geneseo, SUNY New Paltz. New Paltz should be another good safety and would provide you with a residential experience.

What do you know about the locations of those schools? Middle of nowhere? Near big cities? any information like that, or anything else useful would be great.

If it means anything I don’t think NYU is that big of a reach. I would say you might get into NYU, but not Stern. An 88 is around a 3.3 which is low for NYU but your SAT is 50 points above average for NYU. It will probably come down to course rigor.

NYU is a reach in my opinion because A( I would prefer getting into Stern and B) it’s really expensive and I would likely have to get some sort of aid in order to go there, which I don’t expect to be able to find. If I do get into Stern but don’t get much aid, I would still consider going there, but it would be a longshot

New Paltz is about an hour and a half north of New York City. One of my closest friends went there and loved it; I’ve driven up there with her and its an easy drive, and I think also accessible to New York by public transit.

Geneseo is ~1.5 hours from Buffalo.

You may also be interested in Stony Brook (on Long Island), Brockport (also about 1.5 hours from Buffalo), Old Westbury (on Long Island) and perhaps Fredonia (more in the middle of nowhere, out on Lake Erie).

I agree with the suggestion of Fordham. If by tristate area you mean anywhere in New York + NJ, PA, and/or CT, you may also be interested in Syracuse and maybe URochester. Perhaps Temple and Drexel.

Fordam is a Catholic university so many of its students are Catholic but it is not just for Catholics. If you want a non-religious school, look into Hofstra, Manhattanville (used to be affiliated to Roman Catholic Church, but isn’t anymore), West Chester University, Susquehanna University, Quinnipiac, Elmira – all these schools would be safeties for you.
