Hi, I'm going to be a HS senior in the fall and was wondering what other options I should look at. I am looking to major in business (Haven't decided weather finance of accounting or whatever) and already applied to University of Pittsburgh early. I live in eastern Pennsylvania, about an hour drive away from Philly. I would like to go to a school with a good reputation, specifically in business. I plan on applying to Penn State as well. My stats are as follows: GPA 91.62 SAT 1810 (superscored, I took it twice) I have taken 3 AP and 2 Honors classes and am going to take one more AP and one more Honors my senior year. I would like to stay within a 6 hour drive, but distance is flexible. I have about 88K saved up in college savings with the PA 529 GSP (The number rises with Penn State's current tuition). I would like to be able to graduate without any debt also. Some schools that I have looked into, but not sure about applying are Bentley University and University of Delaware. Any input would be greatly appreciated :).

I like your list. It’s unusual to see such a sensible list AND 88K in a 529. Your parents have done well by you. How about a reach, like Lehigh, Franklin & Marshall, or Villanova? Have you considered closer-to-match Ohio State, Gettysburg, Allegheny, James Madison, George Mason, or Virginia Tech?

Bentley is a possibility, as is Babson and UMass. UDelaware is a good school, as is Rutgers. You have lots of opps. For reaches you can have bloomsburg, indiana UofP, cali UofP. I feel like I’m missing some obvious ones.

Hi, glad to hear your family has saved up a nest egg for you, and glad you have the goal of graduating without debt.

If those are two of your parameters, you can find out how much aid you will get at any college you are interested in. Go to each college’s website and plug in your family’s income and assets numbers on the “net price calculator.” It should be on their financial aid page. Some are a little hard to find but it is required by the federal government to be there. The net price calculator is fairly accurate–but not 100 percent foolproof.

Pittsburgh and Penn State are both great schools, but consider applying to a few more. You have so many great public and private colleges in your region. It would help to know how big of a school you would like, and some of the majors that might interest you. City/suburb/small town? Traditional or urban feel campus?

Hope that gets you started.

Thanks

Why not Temple? American and Drexel might be worth applying to, but they are both pretty expensive.

My parents wouldn’t allow me to go to temple because of the neighborhood that it’s in. I think that I would love to go to American, but money is an issue there. I am a white male, so I don’t expect to be able to get any substantial scholarships or anything like that.

American may be interested in a white male not applying for international relations and it’s in DC which is good if you want internships.
Apply in the Fall to both PSU and Pitt and if those are fine, they’d be safeties (your SAT is a bit low for Penn State but if you apply early in the admissions circle and/or indicate willingness to attend summer session, you should be fine.)

I’m going to assume you meant safeties, not reaches. These are definitely easier to get into than PSU or Pitt.

yup.
