Where else to apply - 3.5GPA

CA Resident, junior xfer, for Business/Economics
Applied to UCs, CSUs, USC, Santa Clara
given completed prereqs.
What are the BEST schools I would have a shot at (in-state/OOS)
I know other things factor in but looking at mainly GPA

I think you got them there. I can’t think of any others except Stanford and that’s impossible to asses.

what school did you get your grades at? what were your hs stats? what are your ec’s?

HS stats sucked. Thats why im applying as a junior xfer from a CC
Just say I have fine EC’s
and cmon you cant think of any other school in the US besides stanford?? :stuck_out_tongue:
i need the best schools id have some shot at ! anywhere!, BC? UIUC? UT Austin? NYU?

you really have to give us more information than your college gpa if you want more ideas for college…if you insist on being furtive, so too will we be not as forthcoming with ideas as you would like

no shot at stanford however

i have a small number of EC’s, PT job for 2 years, prereqs done
can get good recs. 3.8x~ in prereqs, 3.5x cum gpa
junior xfer, from cc, ca resident

you already told us as much, no need to re-state what youve already said…for whatever reason you are just not telling us what we need to give you an accurate projection of the kind of schools you can get into. if you insist on being stubborn in giving us the details of your app., you can’t really expect others to take time to give you chances for schools

that being said, i will…i’ll have to assume your ec’s are below what most competitive applicants to top tier schools have and that you don’t have many leadership positions in your ec’s…correct me if im wrong, but if you had them there is a good chance you would have posted them, i think…a 3.5 from a CC to a school like nyu (especially stern) or bc is going to be a bit on the low side…if the rest of your app. is really good you might have a shot at those kinds of schools, if not you won’t…schools that are probably closer to your target range might be schools like boston university, fordham, u conn, trinity, penn state, clemson, rutgers, university of maryland, tulane, etc…

there is a lot more to your college experience than the perceived prestige of your school…not to say that this shouldn’t be a big factor, but you really should sit down and think about what other factors would make your college experience more useful and enjoyable…you don’t want to get into the “best school you can get into” and then find out the learning and social enviornment there isnt amenable to you and find yourself absolutely miserable after your first semester…if your not going to an ivy or a near ivy, the prestige of your school isnt going to have as much importance in the job market as many think…

best of luck

Look at the schools ranked 40-60 on the US News and World Report rankings and find ones you like. A good OOS safety would be the University of Iowa Honors program with guaranteed admission to transfers with a 3.5 and over. Good luck!

thanks duffle (and for the list). i just want to explore all my options and make sure i havent missed any schools (theres too many damn schools that i always forget about OOS)that i might have interest in before the deadlines are up. and your assumptions are 100% correct :)

What about Vandy, UIUC, ND? Tough to get in as well?

UCSD is 35 on that list! Wow UTAustin is very low

Claremont McKenna

Indiana has a strong B school that you could get into, Michigan would be worth a try too.

Thanks guys.
Does Indiana have a good bschool nationally or was it mainly the IBanking workshop that made it recognized? (which would be drastically smaller now)

Penn State University Park does not take transfer students for the Smeal College of Business.

[Penn State Undergraduate Admissions Transfer Requirements](http://www.psu.edu/dept/admissions/steps/understanding/transacadreq.htm#business)

I would definitely look into Indiana’s business school, as it should be easier to get into and has a very good reputation.

Ah no psu
Also like I posted above, I’m still wondering how strong IU’s b program is now that ibanking is gone (for the most part) (and their workshop)
And also don’t you have to get like a 3.5 your first semester at IU and THEN you get admitted into the bschool? Maybe someone could clear these 2 things up
Thanks

For transfering into the Kelley School of Business, you have to take one semester of courses at IU before being admitted into the program. IU’s business school is usually ranked 15-25, just depending on the program, nationally.

Thanks. Do I have any chances at WashU, UIUC

bleh i really want to go to a public school and save some money for grad lol

a 3.5 from a cc is going to be a bit low for wash u
