Maybe Marietta or Washington and Jefferson?

Susquehanna for a fine small school and St Josephs for another good Catholic school. You have solid shots at both

One of the Sunys like Oswego, or Plattsburgh (if you look at these you might want to look into Suny Oneonta, Hartwick, and Elmira)? How about Moravian, Hofstra, Lycoming, Kutztown, Bloomsburg, Montclair (seems like you are instate for NJ), Richard Stockton, Monmouth?

Perhaps you can look up departments that might interest you to pick 2 schools.

NortheastMom,
Yes i am instate for NJ. But i already visited Montclair and Monmouth and didnt care too much for them. I checked out Hofstra though and really liked it so i plan on applying thanks!

Yabeyabe2,
My cousin went to st.joes and didnt like it there. But Susquehanna i’m really thinking about applying to thanks!

allskillz, I toured Montclair several years ago and did not care for it either. I do know of several people who attended recently and did like it, so I threw it out there. I also toured Monmouth several years ago. I liked it, but I did not care for their housing problems at the time. I have no idea about their housing currently. I thought that you might like Hofstra since you have some other larger schools on your list. Hofstra is a large school, but it is not massive either. Good luck!

Some SUNYs
Hofstra
St John’s
Loyola Maryland
Marist College
Ramapo College of NJ

Is money no object? If you’ll need aid, how much would you need, and would you qualify for aid?

^^^I really think that Ramapo and Marist are a bit too reachy, but you never do know. I am not sure about Loyola.

Loyola is too expansive but the campus is beautiful,i visted there last year. i have a 35 per year limit with room and board. Marist is out of my league but ramapo would be nice but there admissions are really stepping it up lately. and i recently just applied to hofstra so im hoping ill get in there. St Johns is in Queens and i don’t think i want to live over there.
Thanks for the help everyone!

*i have a 35 per year limit with room and board. *

Knowing this will help us make some better recommendations. :)

The money budget eliminates many privates.

Cost of Attendance per year for OOS students , State Universities

$25,787, U MINNESOTA
$31,775, U ALABAMA
$31,872, VIRGINIA TECH
$33,775, AUBURN
$34,812, U IOWA
$35,029, U WISCONSIN
$36,210, OHIO STATE
$35,311, U N CAROLINA
$34,696, TEXAS A&M
$32,752, U PITTSBURGH
$36,985, U WASHINGTON

I included some schools that were above your $35k budget because sometimes COAs are bloated a bit with pricier dorms or lavish personal spending budgets. Often, a student can attend for less than the COA. For instance, I know that Alabama includes its costliest housing (super suites with private rooms) in its COA. A student in a regular double room dorm room would save $2500/yr. Other schools might have similar ways to save money.

Keep in mind…these COAs are for the 2009-2010 school year (the current school year). Each year, costs go up, so figure that during your 4 years of college, the costs will go up each year. So if your budget will be $35k for each year (no increases), then you need to choose a college that costs less than that now.

Thanks for the list mom2collegekids but i think most of those schools are out of my range although i would love to go to pitt

^^^^

Do you mean out of your range money-wise or stats-wise?

I think that you could get accepted to some of them. :)

Consider Arizona State University.

Their estimated cost of attendance per year for a non-resident student is $25,629 ($19,629 tuition and $4,500 room and board plus around $1,500 for books).

(actually slightly higher since this doesn’t include travel costs)

You can compute this here:

[Tuition and Cost of Attendance Estimator | Arizona State University](http://students.asu.edu/costs)

and here:

http://www.asu.edu/housing/rates_payments_2009-10_West.htm

Actually I see where meals are about $1,500 more–so make the total about $27,129.

How about Siena (near Albany NY) and Towson (Baltimore suburbs). The only one that I think will be tougher is Rutgers. Otherwise, I think you have good chances at your other schools. Best of luck!

According to ASU’s own website…here is their COA for OOS students for the 2009-2010 school year (so prices will likely be higher next fall).

Tuition & Fees … 19,629
Books/Supplies (visit ASU Bookstore) … 1,270
Room (see housing rates) …5,610
Board (see meal plan rates) …3,600
Transportation … 750
Personal …2,170

Loan Fees … 46

Total … $33,075

To fairly compare schools’ COAs, you have to include the same things. Most schools include Personal and transportation in their COAs, so to compare “apples with apples” you have to include the full COA.

Siena’s COA (from their website): Estimated Cost of Attendance $39,080.00

Towson’s COA is lower for 2009-2010 school year.

Expenses … Out-of-State
Tuition/Fees … $18,232
Room/Board … $9,882
Books …$1,080
Transportation … $1,798

Personal …$1,800

Total… $32,792

Try Adelphi University in Long Island. Right off the train line. But a looooong commute to NJ but good to come home for weekends.

ASU’s too far for my liking. Towson seems good though im going to look more on that. Thanks everyone for all the help.
