I am extremely interested in studying Economics, and was accepted to these schools. I am undecided on which school to attend this fall. Can any of you give me any advice on each of these, especially on graduate school placement? Thanks!

And especially Davidson! I have heard some great stuff about the Econ dept at Davidson but nothing about the others, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either of them. Boston College may have a more prominent reputation up in the Northeast and possibly country-wide than either of the other two, but I don’t know that for a fact.

In terms of placing for graduate school, I read this past fall that out of last year’s class, about 27% of our grads went on to a graduate/professional school. Davidson has a superb reputation at grad school placement and I have heard that if we can do the work here, and do it well, that some grad schools may be a step DOWN in terms of the rigor we’re going to face as students. I hear it’s really tough so I’m coming in prepared to work pretty hard.

Really, though, that’s one of the biggest reasons I’m choosing Davidson for undergrad!

the kitesurfer.

Congratulations to you Kitesurfer. My son will be attending also!

Thanks! This basically confirmed what I have read about Davidson. To be honest, Davidson is my favorite, but I want to make sure that I can place into a great graduate program (ie. London School of Economics in England or an equivalent in the US).

The title deleted this, but I was also accepted to Emory University. Do you, by any chance, happen to know of it’s reputation for Economics?

Thanks again, and I may see you at Davidson next year!

Steibca,

As far as Emory goes, I know for sure it has a superb regional reputation, just like Davidson does. If going to graduate school is your goal, I don’t believe you’ll go wrong in choosing between any of the schools that you’ve noted in the thread. I have heard about and read about Davidson’s academic rigor and the school is going to prepare you for graduate studies; I am also thinking of going on after undergrad and it seems like there’s a big push for that. Good luck in your decision and you will make the right choice for you!

I hope to see you at Davidson this fall.

The kitesurfer

It seems there would be a significant advantage to BC if they think enough of you to place you are in the honors program. Strong nationwide reputation; should be an assured stepping stone to your grad school ambitions.

Thanks everyone for your posts.
@RandomNumber
I do have quite high grades and standardized testing scores, so, to be honest, I feel like I will do as well, and be treated equally, in BC Honors and all the other schools involved.

I mean, like all students, I am looking forward to an overall great experience at university, leading to an excellent graduate school program at a school such as Duke or UPenn (I was wait listed at both), leading to a successful career. I just want to make sure that I go to the right university to make that happen.
With the choices I have though, through research, and kitesurfer’s comment, I don’t think I can go wrong with my choice.

Why are college admissions so complicated?
