Where have you FINALLY decided to go for 2005?

Phillipus Exonianus Academius- my unofficial name for it- Class of '09!!!

I didn't apply to Andover because it was election year, and it was my own private protest against George W. Bush.

Stupid, I know, so please no criticism. It was my own thing, and I did what I thought was best for me, and that is Exeter!

Karine- St. George's is awesome. We didn't visit with S, because he was applying as a junior and there would have been very little chance of acceptance, but it was highly recommended to us. I read all about it and got the viewbook. You will find on these forums that there are only a limited number of schools discussed. Many, many excellent schools aren't mentioned. S is at one of the lesser known schools and we could not be more pleased.

I really agree with Superior, Andover's library really sucked, but I would have definetely picked Andover over Exeter.

Doesn't Andover use discussion teaching in some subjects too though?

Thanks for your input about St. George's, Momofwildchild. As I mentioned, there was no contest for my d. once she saw it - she knew that if she was accepted there, she would go without hesitation. We're very happy for her,, that she felt such a strong sense of rightness there, and are sure she will be extremely happy.

We'll be sending our son to St. Paul's School. I'll be that mother who sends all those cool care packages and quarters every month.

Zafira/Kat - Lmao! That's another reason why Exeter was my first choice - since Bush went to Andover and Exeter is Andover's rival school.

Enigma - Nope, I don't go to international school; I'm homeschooled. Most of my friends go to the international schools here though. Exeter was my first choice and really, my only choice. I only applied for Exeter and Andover -- Andover only because a lot of my parents' friends' kids went there, so it was a kind of pressure. Otherwise, I would have just applied for Exeter. It's the whole Harkness table thing, and frankly, the Andoverians I've met are all quite arrogant and pompous and willing to go into "MY SCHOOL IS BETTER THAN YOURS LOLZ!111" argument that I find pointless. The Exonians I know are all very nice and genuine...and some friends of friends go there, so I have a group that I know I can fit into there.

Andover might be closer to Boston and general civilization (my mom wanted me to apply for Choate, Hotchkiss, and Taft (all CT schools) so that I'd be closer to NYC and relatives), but Exeter just seemed like a fit for me.

Superior I only applied to Andover, Exeter and Choate. I wanted a bigger school. I did get into all three but Andover was always the favorite. I wanted to be near a city and in a bigger town.

Fxmom, you will be very popular like my mom who sends the best care packages. Everyone starts drooling when I enter the building with one in hand!

Although I'm late, I would like to congratulate you on your acceptances. I can see why someone would choose Andover over Exeter, but it just seemed to me since the beginning that Exeter was the school for me.

I couldn't agree with you more Estayer.

public school is the way to go.

Not necessarily, otherwise there would be no prep school applicants.

I'm going to go to Exeter - Exonians '09!

Hi Esatyr, thanks for sharing!

Woww it seems like some ping pong table:

...Exter...Andover...Exter...Andover...

haha, I'm not complaining or starting anything either! I'm still knew to the whole prep scene anyways.

So no one considered single-sex education? Why or why not? Just curious.

My d has chosen Miss Porter's School. She had two really good re-visits there which tipped the scale for her!

Go Big Red!

my s will start next year at boarding school. tell me what is in the very best care packages!

My son always preferred that I send $$$$ or put money in his account. He goes on weekend excursions, buys snacks etc.

Care Packages

Laundry Detergent
Quarters
Soap
Snack Bars
etc..

There are numerous sites that send care packages or offer really great ideas on what to pack in a care package. One of them is: http://www.from-mom.com/

fxMom, thankyou so much..........
I did not know that such services exist. fxmom, from your research have you found that from-mom.com to be the best? Are there others you might refer me to? again, thanks so much. what a great idea

Ah care packages. My favorites contain home made goodies--brownies, fudge, cookies. My mom is also great about my strange favorites--cheeses, olives and salami, good fresh fruit. Remember, we have lots of access to candy bars and such so we treasure the unusual. And yes, those without a laundry plan need quarters!
