Chicago does indeed. Gorgeous campus, but more actively urban than Northwestern's.
Rice is kind of an extreme example-- the campus has little to do with Houston.

U of C is great, but doesn't even BEGIN to compare to the intellectual aura/prestige/opportunities/student abilities/sheer obsession-garnering feel of Columbia. Only @ Columbia can you truly say "I reside in the heart of the greatest metropolis of our times." :-D

you can say it for NYU too...

prepare for a few more suicides at NYU if youre gonna base your choices on what other people say

LOL true.

revision: Only @ Columbia can you truly say "I reside in the ivy heart of the greatest metropolis of our times."

Yeah, as much as I love Columbia, I would be more than happy to get into Chicago. Both those schools are my dream schools.

Tufts, Brown, Yale, Johns Hopkins...

I'm reading about all of these posts about how people think NYU have this city to campus relationship. Honestly, being a New Yorker who lives about a 10 minute walk away from NYU's campus center near CAS, NYU lacks this sort of college feeling. NYU is not a college that's meant for students that live in the city. It's a great university for people who are not from New York. Everyone in my family thinks I'm crazy that I'm doing everything I can to leave the city when everyone wants to be in the city. Hehe! Not applying to Columbia though :(.

Exactly why im not applying to NYU

It's an urban experience for people who are from the rural parts of america...uhh you know who you are, LOL. no offense

Duke, and if not there, then UNC-CH (instate)

Personally, for me, if I get rejected from UPenn ED I'm gonna be spazzing about getting in Columbia. Columbia was my dream school for like a year but then it slowly became UPenn after talking to students, visiting, and analyzing my situation and circumstances. If UPenn didn't exist, I'd still be nuts about Columbia. If only I could go to both!

Anyway...

cornell, the only reason that it did not top columbia on my list is because it has a weird academic schedule. The nine weeks per course thing... not sure if I could handle it.

--- glory counldnt agree with u more on this.. i was actually applying to chicago EA just because i was paranoid.
then i stopped dead cus the essays stumped me..
and i dont even have 0.0000000001% of the sheer love and obssession that i have for columbia with chicago..

i hear chicagos great and all but i have 2 friends (well friends brothers) that go there and looking at them.. and from looking at every single site and college guidebook i hear that it's the nation's nerdiest most geekiest school.. sounds no fun..

my transcripts and everything already reached there to make the early deadline but i'm most probably not going to apply at all...... the essays suck... who wants to write about mustard anyway?

columbia all the way baby!!!

hmmm upenn... i dont know what philly's like.. but out of the ivies isnt columbia most similar to upenn?

i heard that cornell has lots of suicides too...
anyway just wondering.. why would anyone want to be stuck up in ithaca??

out of the ivies.. columbia is the best :) haha!
sorry for offending anyone if i did...i dont mean to!!! lol im just in love with columbia

i'm not going to even say much about nyu... because.. im really just MEH about that school..
what is up with the ginorrrrmousssss undergrad population?
and the no campus thing sucks..
basically what i want to say is.. it's NOT columbia :(

"hmmm upenn... i dont know what philly's like"

haha, let's just say "philly" is bit more on the "rough side" when compared to Harlem (NOT Morningside Heights) in NY.

"cornell has lots of suicides too..."

Haha it's all ********, suicides are not caused by tough curriculum, but by people who have a hard time handling life emotionally.

"why would anyone want to be stuck up in ithaca??"

Uhh...Me? LOL, Ithaca is not that great, but cornell itself is like a small town...a beautiful small town.

WHAT??!!! ******** is a censored word!!!??? okay, BS then.

fair enough.. i've never been to ithaca. it's probably really nice.
but i don't want to be in a small town... and it's too much travelling for me (no international airport)..

i already have to take a plane for over 24 hours.. to get to nyc.
they do singapore to nyc direct now :) at least i dont have to stop over newhere!

why don't you just go to school in singapore?

because i don't want to..
what a question!

thicks - 9 weeks per course thing? Do you mean quarter instead of semester-based scheduling?

How is it possible for people to like both Brown and Columbia...?

Columbia: ultimate core curriculum
Brown: ultimate lack thereof
