Every year, college admissions get crazier and crazier. Not too long ago, a good SAT score with good grades got you into a top school. Now, to get into those top schools, you need superb SATs, amazing grades in the most rigorous courseload possible, well-rounded and in-depth ecs, great recs, and something that makes you stand out, like national recognition or strong and unique talent. Even if you have all that, sometimes it just comes down to luck. So if it's like that now, what's it going to be like for our kids' generation. And what about the generation after that? The amount of people in this world is only gonna go up, and so are the amount of well-qualified people applying to colleges. And what we call safety schools could become reaches. How are adcoms gonna choose who to let in? Wouldn't acceptance rates have to go to 5% eventually? With so many people "standing out," isn't everyone gonna be the same? Where do you think college admissions are headed?

Isn't it supposed to cool down after 2011?
It has to do with baby boom generations.

I heard 2008 is the peak year for college applicants

But as for admission in selective colleges, it will only get tougher. I blame it all on the Asians (I can do that because I am one.)

As far as I've heard, this was the worst year for a while, and things will get a little less frenzied for a while. But, yeah, all about the "echo boom" generation.

Yeah, I've heard that these few years are the toughest and that it will get easier after that. Yeah, as everyone else says, it's about the baby boomers.

sevitagen, are u serious??
aww can i be in the class of 2009 now? -_-

class of '10, YES (cackles wickedly) to dartmouth i come, baby.

^^ lol no offense but class of '10 just sounds really funny
im just so used to '08 and '09 that having one syllable is amusing

I'm class of 2010, and I have to say, while 2008 might be the peak year, it won't be much easier for us. :-/

LMAO.

I remember one time we were at a rally (I don't remember what for, my school likes their rallies a little too much) and someone tried to yell out "Oh ten!" after we'd yelled out "oh eight" and "oh nine"

And the gym just went dead silent. XD it was hilarious.

yeah the 10'ers have it rough. 08'ers and 09'ers have it cool.

What about 11 and 12?

Oh nine! Oh ten! Oh eh-lehv-en! Oh twelve!

I think that's kind of good.

Cause it's just raising the standard. And yah, maybe our kids generation won't get into top schools even if they've done research in neuroscience by age 15. But then, it'd just mean that more and more kids are raising the overall standard regardless of which college they go to.

It's just 'ten'. Not oh-ten. That's like writing '010 next to someone's name. XP
