I hope that when our deck is all fixed up, one
of my happy places will be even happier!
LOL, I think that’s exactly why. You have way above and beyond been there, done that.
In my hammock on the back patio.
At the beach. Especially west coast beaches, especially on uncrowded days. December is fine.
I love the beach. We usually go for a week trip once a year. I would definitely go more often, but it’s $$.
I also love the mountains. MIL has a house in the mountains and we spend a good bit of time up there.
My bed is my happy place in my house! Very comfy.
I also love our local library. It’s a beautifully redesigned LEED certified building with lots of natural light and comfy chairs and sooooo many books. I just feel calm when I walk in there.
It used to be shelling on the beach at Sanibel.
Now it’s my back yard, in the lounge chair, looking over the pool at the palm trees, flowers and birds around me, knowing I’ll be relaxing in the pool shortly.
Second is strolling the paths at Cabrillo National Monument from the overlook of the city and bay over to Whale Watch Point, on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
And always at the beach, which could be every day if I wanted.
Ahhh, yes, the library!
At home, it’s outside walking here on our farm and enjoying the beauty of it all (nature being nature).
Away from home it’s places with great views. They can be mountains, forest, rocks, beaches or similar.
I also love hearing the waves created by Big Water, but I only really like being “in” water if we’re snorkeling or scuba diving, both of which I love if they’re good sites with a lot to see. I’m rarely a pool or “let’s just swim” person. Otherwise on beaches I just love walking and “seeing” nature.
My Mother’s Day T-shirt present (sort of from H after he showed it to me and I suggested it). I’m on our property and the Blue Spruce behind me was our first Christmas tree when we moved here.
My H wishes my happy place would be his family cottage, but I much prefer a different area of Michigan. My mom was raised “up north,” and all of my vacations growing up were in northern Michigan. I can’t help it … I’m just drawn to Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and a once-sleepy alpine village between the two. I don’t get to visit very often anymore, unfortunately.
Closer to home, my happy place is in bed on a sunny summer morning. The window by the bed faces East, so its sunrise side. I like to just stretch out and quiet my mind for a bit before starting the day.
We own a timeshare on Grand Cayman, and when we get there and look out at the ocean from our balcony, we go from type A to type B.
When people ask what we do there, our answer is usually “nothing,” and we like it that way. I am not really good at relaxing, but there I seem to figure it out.
Happy place has been, for decades, on the top of a ski slope looking out over the snow-capped mountains. I am hopeful it will again be our happy place when we heal from our broken bones….
Before we moved, this was the view that greeted me each morning as I started my run. Running turned me into a happy morning person. I have lovely run routes in my new location, but with aging I have more days when overuse injuries ruin the experience, sadly.
A few:
Sitting in my kayak–the minute I launch, I’m at peace.
Any beach, really
My back porch
Libraries
My baseball team’s ballpark–even when they’re awful.
London
Aside from home with my wife and dog or driving, it’s St. Andrews, Scotland (at least as it was in the mid-90’s). I’ve too many fond memories and friends from there.
Rats. Video didn’t work
A concert? Not at Ticketmaster scammy pricing!
(No not mine )
One of my most happy places is the group I sing with: a 100 voice women’s chorus. I love the music, the camaraderie, the working together toward a common goal. Plus it’s often hilarious. In the middle of rehearsal I sometimes think, “I am just so glad to be here.”
