After lurking the prep school boards of College Confidential throughout this whole year, I've decided to come forth and ask for advice from all of the helpful people attending the prep schools of their dreams. I know chance-ing people is no fun, but I would really appreciate your help.
I'm a rising eighth grader dreading the application ceremony coming up in the fall. I am still unsure of where to apply, and I was wondering based on my interests and grades where I should apply and where I can get in. Tips for the interviews and spicing up the applications would be great too.

Academics:
-Straight A student
-By the end of eighth grade I will have completed Algebra I and Algebra II
-I placed fifth in an all middle school spelling bee this year

Science Fair Awards:
-In fifth grade I won the principals award (an all school award, but I'm not sure how relevant an award from fifth grade is...)
-In sixth grade I placed second in my grade
-In seventh grade I placed first in my grade.

EC's and interests:

-I have been the Editor-in-chief of my school's newspaper for two years
-I have played on a travel soccer team for four years
-For the past three years I have had roles in our school musicals (not big ones....). I have also taken a role in painting the sets for these musicals
-I love to write, cook and paint
-If all goes well, I plan to join this program where you volunteer to tutor children who can't afford a tutor one hour a week

A few more things I forgot to mention:
-I have been a Counselor-in-Training at a Montessori camp for the past two summers (would this earn me brownie points??)
-By the end of the summer I will have 50 hours of volunteering at a local farm (should I try for a larger number of hours?)
-I am in my schools cooking club
-Eighth grade will be my third year partaking in the Math Olympiad

Well if you were in the Math Olympiad…
Choate has a very good math program and competes with a math team. Exeter is also very math/science-y, but don’t get me wrong, their humanities is great too. So two schools you should definitely look into are Choate and Exeter.

Oh and Choate also has a very good theatre program, so you would get to paint the sets? Though almost all great prep schools have AMAZING art facilities

Great! Thanks so much, I’ll definitely consider both of those schools. As far as my EC’s go, do you think I could be admitted in to either of them? Oh, and I took a few practice tests for the SSAT and answered about 93 percent of them correctly.

@Nemom, Those are my two top choices actually. I’m not so sure if boarding school is for me, but luckily there are lots of great day schools in the Boston area.

Great EC’s! Since you’ve been on a travel soccer team for 4 years, I take it that you’re good and you enjoy it. In that case, both Exeter and Andover have great sports programs, but they are very competitive.

to be honest dont ask people where to apply and especially not on this forum. do the research and find out yourself what schools are matches for you. boarding school like college is very personal what works for one dosnt work for another. and also BTW boarding schools dont care about what you did in grade 5 unless your applying to grade 8 maybe

@eukalyptus,
I heard that boarding schools don’t care what you did in sixth grade. But I might be wrong. And btw @rolopolo you could probably get in most places you applied.
