Where should I apply for ED2.. Emory or NYU?

Hi!
I am currently an international student (non-U.S. citizen) and want to apply Emory (both colleges) or NYU for Early Decision II, but I'm not sure where to apply.....
My grades and ECAs are:

SAT: 1910 (R 510 M 790 W 610)
SAT2: Math2, Physics (haven't got the scores yet.. I guess 800 for math2 and 650~750 for physics)
GPA: increase a lot % from grade 9 to 11.. so unweighted GPA is quite low
(but might be in top 10% among seniors currently)
TOEFL: 88 (gonna take again this week)
Recommendation: mostly excellent (counselor and two teachers recommendations)
ECA
Yearbook leader (2)
Chess club (board game) leader (2)
athletic counselor representative (1)
School Band (2)
Harmonica Club (1)

Award

AP Currently

I might apply for Economics with mathematics in major but can be changed.
Any chance for Emory or NYU?? Thank you!

Your SAT scores are low for both NYU and Emory. Lower for Emory than NYU. That said, as someone who’s been admitted to both NYU and Emory, Emory does seem to look at the whole of your application more than just the numbers, whereas NYU looks more at numbers. However, based on stats alone, you stand a better chance at NYU. Then question then is can you afford NYU?

Like the person above said, you have a lot better chance for NYU than Emory, however if you are accepted, Emory would probably end up being less expensive. Because it is a private school, it tends to give a good amount of scholarship and financial aid money.

Just one tip if you are applying to Emory: they are very into environment preservation and being green, so if you could somehow work that into your essay or appeal to it, then you could be given a boost up.

Of course, also look at environment. NYU is in a bustling city while outside of the Emory campus, there isn’t much. Granted, it is very self-sustainable and a great campus, but keep that in mind.

If you do not have a clear first choice (or affordability at your clear first choice is a potential problem), don’t apply ED anywhere.

Thank you all!

If you’re an international student and money isn’t really a problem for you, I suggest that you aim for NYU. It has the better brand name overseas, great people, and it’s in a nice part of New York.

Overseas: NYU > Emory
