Where should I apply for Engineering?

Well, I have shortlisted universities. But, I am not really sure about acceptances.
So, I wanted to know if you guys could suggest me some universities to apply at.
I wanted to apply to GTech and UT Austin, but deadlines are over. What do you guys suggest? I need to go to a descent well reputed university.

North Carolina State University
University of Florida
Purdue University (West Lafayette)
Michigan State University
Pennsylvania State University (Penn State University)

Also, chance me if you can. Thank you so much.

The counselors at the closest office of [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.EducationUSA.state.gov) will have ideas for you. Read through that website, and find the advising centers that are convenient.

You are an international applicant. Even if you are full-pay admissions will be tougher than for a US applicant with your stats. There is a whole sub-forum fir India inside the International Students Forum. The people there may be able to give you some ideas. Go to the main page where all of the forums are listed, and scroll down to find it.

Alright, thank you. Will take it into consideration.

bump 10 char

Bump 10 charrr

I honestly don’t think you’ll get accepted to most of your schools. a 490 CR score is extremely low, even for an Engineering major from India. Maybe look into Iowa State, Dayton, or University of Missouri (couple schools just off the top of my head).

Thank you for your suggestion.

You should try for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

You think I have a shot there?
It seems pretty tough. 33% acceptance.

Too late to apply to Cal Poly. Their deadline was last fall.

Yeah, I just checked :(

bumppppppppppp

there are many colleges that have very good engineering programs. The higher ranked ones can’t produce enough engineers for the country. If you’re only looking at the higher ranked schools, then that could be the problem. You may not understand that engineering programs ranked in the top 120 or so are all very good. Look for ABET accreditation.

look at it this way, in the state of Calif, there are about 25 very good engineering programs…and that’s just in ONE state.

Thank you.

It may be late; can you take ACT on Feb. 9 & rush your scores? Sometimes students do well in ACT. Recommend that you take practice ACT exam & if your score comes better than SAT (based on conversion table), then you should consider taking ACT. Also please consult with admission counselors at each of the universities to ensure your ACT scores will be considered prior to their making admissions decision. I suspect that with IB diploma & being a full paying student, it is likely that you may be admitted, albeit on a provisional status.

I wanted to, but it is too late for that.
I will have my TOEFL scores soon though. Should be 100+

Your SAT Math + Critical Reading of 1250 is equivalent to ACT 27 – 28.

Your score is well within 50 percentile of incoming students at some of the schools under consideration. Note that in many cases, potential incoming engineering students’ profiles are much better than the regular students.

Moving forward:

 1. Provide your high school administrator stamped envelopes addressed to admissions offices of various colleges you are applying. Request your high school admin to send various colleges your school profile in a sealed envelope. School profile gives college admissions counselors specific information about your HS grading & about your cohorts. Presume your school admin has already sent your HS transcripts to the colleges?

Set up a skype account. For making frequent overseas calls, skype may be cheaper, unless other alternate arrangements are available.

Call the admissions office at each of the universities & obtain phone numbers of international admissions counselors.

Discuss your IB grades with international admissions counselors and get an understanding of how their university would convert it to GPA equivalent. Some universities do prefer IB curriculum due to its rigor.

Be prepared to provide each university a well DOCUMENTED statement of financial support for the first 2 years and beyond. It would facilitate the universities in sending you an I-20 needed to obtain a student visa. Scholarships and on campus employment are extremely hard to obtain, especially for internationals.

@Trinity7 - Thank you so much for that piece of advise.

Sent some transcripts already, some left to send.

Calls to US are at local rates for me. So don’t need Skype :D

On it.

Many prefer IB due to its rigor from what I have heard

Did so already.

Although I am rounding up to 1250 (M+CR) till what extent will they overlook the fact that I got such a low CR?

Another good alternative is the guaranteed 2+2 engineering transfer program at Flint campus of University of Michigan. The first 2 years are spent at U of M, Flint, taking all the engineering prerequisites, and if one meets the GPA & course requirements, the transfer to U of M Ann Arbor is fairly smooth. Last 2 years of the 4 years of UG are spent on U of M, Ann Arbor campus pursuing any of the 15 undergraduate programs in engineering/computer science. International / full paying out-of-state students can save around $20,000/- year for a total of over $40,000/- during the first 2 years, as compared to attending Ann Arbor campus of University of Michigan. My understanding is that Univ. of Michigan, Flint does not require ACT or SAT as admission requirement for international students, but use ACT/SAT scores for placing the incoming (international) students at appropriate course level. However, they do require proficiency in English. US students do need to submit ACT/SAT for admission.

This is a great opportunity for international /out-of-state students to be admitted to the excellent college of engineering at U of M, Ann Arbor.

Brief description:
