Where Should I apply for Housing?

Tell me what the best freshman residence halls are and why. The hill, The Quad?

The village are the best dorms, which are apartment style suites, however it is more expensive by about 1-2 thousand a year I think. The quad and hill are the standard dorm format, but the quad is far preferrable. The hill is kind of old(and smells that way too) and is in the corner of campus, where the quad is right in the middle.

My daughter lives in the Village, and the rooms are incredible. Having your own bedroom is very nice. They also have a fridge, microwave, living room area, cable in their bedroom, two bathrooms, etc. Like moosepig said, they are more expensive. (The prices are online) I think you may have to be an honor’s student, and may even have to be an NMF, or a Presidential Scholar to get in them. The only downside is that my daughter said she hasn’t gotten to meet many other students there. It doesn’t have a common lounge area, and it is like an apartment where kids just go to their suite and stay there.
The Quad is probably your next best place to live. Great location and newer than the Hill. The earlier you put in your deposit, the better chance you have of getting your preferred dorm.

I would like to note that you do not have to be in the Honors college or a NMF/pres scholar. I do think those give you some priority but anyone who can pay and applies early enough can. Speaking of which, you should probably apply soon the spots go pretty quick.

Thanks for noticing that Moosepig. Yes, I made a mistake and was thinking about Aubie Hall specifically. To live there, you need to be in the Honor’s College with priority going to Presidential Scholars. Of the eight halls in The Village, three are for sororities, and one (Aubie) is an honor’s hall. The other four are open to anyone. The prices are $5860 per year for the Village (three or four bedroom), $4550 (double room)for the Quad, and $3930 for the Hill. This is just a guess, but to get into the Village, you have to put down a deposit quite early, probably before the first of the year-the sooner the better. When I called last year, a person in housing told me the percentages and the Village was by far the first choice of most students.

I noticed when we went online to pay her housing deposit that not only did it ask me which type of dorm she wanted to live in (village, quad, hill) but it asked me specifically which building. She knows she wants to be in the village but we’re not sure if one particular building listed is any better than any other.

Per housing, Presidential scholars are no longer given priority over other Honors College students for housing. It’s purely by the date the student signs up for housing. This is a change this year. If your student is unsure of the specific building, simply apply with one building to get your place ‘in line’. You can contact housing later and add second and third choices.

As far as the best Village dorms, I would take a look at the map and pick the closest to the arena. Talon is the furthest away, and Aubie is the closest. Aubie is the honors dorm this year. My D loves being as close as possible to her classes, and you would save a couple of minutes of walking each morning.

I live in the upper quad and it’s really nice. Except, my roommate is a jerk.

a different school

paid it today and requested Eagle Hall.

According to the school’s website, the housing assignments aren’t issued until mid-June. I suppose that makes sense, since they don’t know how many will commit to AU until May 1st. Does anyone know if they give you any housing status info before May 1st?

We didn’t hear anything about housing last year until right around the estimated date given to us when we paid the deposit. It was a looong wait, but D got a great room assignment.
