Do you want a very science-oriented place or a small liberal arts college? For the robotics-type interest, I think Carnegie Mellon has a program you might like. For liberal arts colleges, Middlebury Amherst, Wililiams and Bowdoin are great. There have been a number of threads on financial aid for internationals. Financial aid might be more likely at liberal arts colleges that are slightly less selective than the 4 I named (like Grinnell).

The top liberal arts colleges don’t offer electrical engineering (with the exception of Harvey Mudd).

Post on the international student discussion forum. You’ll get better feedback there.

Your stats seem a bit low for an int’l who needs FA. You’ll be competing against int’ls who have near-perfect stats.

The schools that give a lot of FA to int’ls who also want to major in Engg tend to require higher stats.

Your SAT Reasoning scores: 2040
(CR-670, M-780, WR-590)

Your M+CR SAT is 1450. That might be high enough for good sized merit at some lower ranked schools that have good engineering programs. But, they won’t be “free rides” - your family would still have a contribution.

How much will your family contribute?

What schools are you looking at?

Family ~20k

currently looking at
UT Austin
Texas A&M
and need sugestions where else i should apply

hard to get merit at UT Austin and texas A and M. Look into Harvey Mudd, and check Cooper Union- I dont know if they accept international students.

Don’t expect any aid from a state school like UT or Tex A&M. They don’t give aid to int’ls.

Your list needs to include…

1) privates that give big need to int’ls…those are elites like Ivies, Stanford, etc.

2) privates and publics that will give big merit to int’ls.

hola1729,

You need to take a look at the information at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) then you should make an appointment with the counselors at their advising center in Bangalore [EducationUSA - Center Profile - Yashna Trust, USIEF Satellite Centre](http://www.educationusa.info/Yashnatrust-USIEFSatellite-Bangalore) These counselors are expert at helping students from your area find good places to study in the US, and they will be able to tell you which universities have offered the kind of financial aid that you need to students with a profile like yours.

If you click on “Discussion Home” in the upper-left of this screen, and then scroll down to find the International Student Forum, you will see that there is a sub-forum specifically for students from India. If you read through some of the threads there, you may get more ideas that are helpful for you.

Wishing you all the best.
