i need a list of colleges where i should apply(safe, medium and really good)......and do you think i'm good enough to get interviews in ivies? and yeah....for my college application essay....im gonna explain how i got inspired to study science(specifically medicinal biology) when i saw a newborn baby die on my expedition to the makran coast, karachi, pakistan to replant mangroves. and oh...yeah...i plan to do extensive research and study science(pre med) at college...so yeah if i can get in somewhere that has that.

shahrez

no…i mean where they dont accept international students…and can i get a whole list…i mean i dont know much about colleges in the us…like…people have lists of colleges where they are going to apply…i need a list as a suggestion to where i apply, consisting of safe, moderate and tough schools.

I don’t think there are any universities in the U.S. that refuse to accept international students. They are welcome everywhere (as long as they can pay). Many public schools give priority to local residents, but even then, internationals are admitted, just under a higher standard.

Can you give us an idea of your rank in your class? That may be more important than your percentage grades, because colleges may not know how to interpret them. Does your high school typically send students to colleges abroad?

Go to reviewDOTcom and enter your qualifications into “Counselor-O-Matic”. It will give you three lists of universities from which you can start your search. The better the data you enter, the better the results.

There are absolutely no restrictions on attending university based on nationality. You will, of course, need to obtain a student visa from a US embassy or consulate in order to enter the USA.

well…im like the top 5%…and i must be like the 20th…the school’s the best in the country…and you can say it does…in my country…we have 9th and 10th grade in high school and 11th+12th at college…so my college does send…there was a rhodes scholar selected this year too…

do you think this a good list…(i know some are way too far for me but…generally)
harvard
Bennington
uky
university of wyoming
tufts
ucla
uc-berkley
princeton
yale
stanford
baylor
pacific
vermont
hawaii-hilo
rockhurst
tampa
stonehill
juniata
denison
…please add or subtract…

from your achievements, it seems like you are well off so it would definitely be a good idea to apply to harvard, bennington, uc berkley, stanford and princeton
my cousin whos from pakistan will probably also apply to most of those
also, im pretty sure all colleges look for international students

yeah because i have some very unique life experiences to share too…so its good that these care about those…and i also know a person who got into harvard with a 3.2 gpa and a 33 mcat…because he had some experience with the taliban(very epic…:D)…when he was in afghanistan to help the people there who were affected by war.
that was med school though…

That’s a very random list of colleges. What exactly are you looking for? Majors? Career plans? Clearly, you don’t care what part of the US you live in, but do you care if your school’s in a big city or in a rural area? Will you need financial aid?

im quite confused but does anybody think my stats are good enough to get admitted into any of the one’s in my list…like for sure?..cuz its a really scary situation leaving the invitation letter from the best med school in pakistan…to go to america(long term dream to study medicine in one of the ivies)

@bruno14…IM LOOKING FOR something in the 40000$ range, with good research opportunities…cuz i plan to do a lot of research during my undergrad years, im gonna do a pre med major. i’d like it if my unis in an urban area…and it will be VERY VERY HELPING!..if there’s financial aid…
shahrez

If you are in the top 5% at the best high school in your country, you are a reasonable candidate for ALL the colleges in the U.S. That’s why people are asking to know a lot more about your goals and interests. Your stats don’t narrow down the field at all.

thanks for the info are there any other specifics…you guys want to know…?
I MEAN…AM I HALLUCINATING OR DO I ACTUALLY HAVE A CHANCE AT THE IVIES…(DON’T MIND MY IVIE-ISH BEHAVIOUR)…

8-10 hours a day, I really don’t know how you can do that. I don’t think it is humanly possible to do SAT practice Tests 3 times a day. Or read books, or whatever you do for the improvement of a 2350 SAT…

Anyways you looks like you’d get in anywhere, so good luck

Your list seems a little wacky. Hawaii? Tampa? I’m not sure you would be happy at Baylor. What about Rice or Tufts or Tulane or Emory? Those seem like better choices. UCLA and Berkeley are huge and not worth the expense for an international. USC would be better.

thats what im saying…i still dont have what i need.
i need a list of 20-30 colleges where i should apply…i agree ricegal…i did that because i didnt know…

Do you care about the weather? part of the US? Do you prefer a heads-down-and-study culture, or a very social culture? Large vs small? City vs not?

shahrezsyed - Just look at the USNWR list of top universities (since you want to do significant research I would focus on the National Universities. Some LACs have good research opportunities, but not as consistently as the larger universities). I would say pick 10 from the top 20 and 10 from the next 20. You can narrow it down some by eliminating schools that are in locations that you might not want as much, for example as said above, do you think you want to be right in a large city or do you want a more rural location? Really large school or somewhat smaller one? I understand you are not very familiar with the USA and our culture, so some of this may be difficult to know. But make your best guess as to what you think you would like, what you really want to get out of a US based education, and I am sure we can make better recommendations than those on your list. They really are all over the place, no consistency to them at all.

I agree with Ricegal that you should think more about schools that are ranked just slightly below Ivies and not worry about hawaii, Wyoming etc. unless you particularly like those locations. Rice and Emory, as mentioned, but also Wash. U. and Johns Hopkins. Consider a few top liberal arts schools ----Middlebury and Amherst, for example---- and a few places strong in science that are slightly easier than Hopkins/Wash. U. to get into. University of Rochester and Brandeis, for example.
