Where should I apply?

Prep school has always been a dream of mine, and now a year into public high school I really regret waiting. I am looking for people to list some schools based on my criteria that I would fit in at. It is huge for me that I am challenged no matter where I go, mainly because my public school is already very competitive and I don’t want to end up losing motivation by going to an easy school. Either way I will be applying to a couple of reaches (for me) like Hotchkiss, St. George’s Taft, Loomis Chafee, Groton, and possibly Lawrenceville because I live so close. For me I am hoping that Hockey can help me get into a school that I would not normally get into with just my academics alone. After all if I am not going to go pro, I might as well do something with my talent.

Academics:

First semester GPA : 3.34

Current Grades-
Biology- 95%
Geometry- 87%
Italian - 91%
History- 92%
Intro to Law- 94%
English- 85%
I am yet to take the SSAT but I am currently studying for them and will be taking them two months from now.

Athletics
Varsity Ridge Hockey
Bantam AA Skyland Kings
Tier 1 96 Renegades Select
Next year I will be playing Varsity Ridge on top of AAA National

Community Service
In contact with the New Jersey Devils' Hockey In Newark program to help with spring and summer teams.

Also next year I am taking two honors classes, and on top of hockey I will be joining multiple clubs such as Model UN and Future Business Leaders of America.

Last thing... I am currently a freshman, and would be applying next fall, most likely I would repeat sophomore year if I got into any of the schools. I would be doing that not only to adjust the work load but mainly for Hockey so that I could get another year of hockey under my belt.

the best place to look for schools is [Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools](http://www.boardingschoolreview.com) you can check which schools have the sports you want, and other figures that come into play when you are looking at a BS. I dont know much about hockey schools though, sorry!

Ya I like that site but it gives me a list of like 30 schools, and I am really looking to focus on like 10 school. Also I cant tell how the schools are by the list other than their SAT scores and occasional matriculation lists. Thanks though.

I will not chance you, but I will say that , you need more diversity, for example do you play any different sports, do you play an instrument, do you speak another language? Its good that your focused on a particular sport, but once hockey season is over what do you do?

I am in my 4th year of italian, I dont play an instrument, I used to play baseball and lacrosse, but didnt love them. I played a little bit of golf and tennis which I think I might be interested playing at prep school. I honestly dont think it makes a difference if i play 10 sports or one. If they are looking for good athletes , they wont be looking for kids who are amazing at 3 different sports each corresponding with a season of the year. They will most likely focus on my Hockey, Interview, Grades , SSAT scores, and my overall attitude, which means that playing one sport wont kill my chances. Rather than just joining the freshman tennis team so I can say that I play tennis, I would like to focus on joining clubs which I have heard look great when applying. I have a freind who goes to groton and has told me that you have a better chance getting in as an overall student athelete than some genius with no social skills and perfect grades. After all they are looking for kids that will go on to be sucessful and build their name.
