Where should I apply?

I am a senior at a boarding school in MA… 33 ACT, A average, with strong ECs. My grades aren’t bad but aren’t impressive either. I am determined to go to the best school that I possibly can but haven’t found my college counselor to be much help. If anyone has any college suggestions in the North East, I’d love to hear them!

What are you interested in studying?

It’s hard to tell what you are looking for. However if you want a Small liberal Arts college look at Colgate, Hamilton, Colby, Tufts, Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette. These schools area all very competitive so you’re grades have to be good. Good state schools if thats what you want are Rutgers, Penn State, University of Maryland, University of Delaware, University Rhode Island. If you want a city school NYU. Probably “best”/ most competitive schools out of this list are Colgate, Colby, Hamilton, Tufts, and NYU. But you should look at some of these schools to see what you want. Your ACT scores are very good it might even bee worth a visit to go to some of the Ivy leagues or Williams and Amherst. But it is tough tell what you want.

What do you mean by “best”?

Whatever it is won’t mean much to anyone else unless and until you describe the attributes you want in a school and prioritze them. Then you can start deciding what suits you. No one else can. I bet then that any conversation you might have with your counselor will draw out some type of list of names where he/she has insight and connections with their administrators and your school’s graduates. That would surely help you.

You know your own scores/grades/school reputation/EC strength and interests that would contribute to those application essays, right? And you know the profiles of several colleges’ Class of 2020 students from websites, right? The ball is in your court.

Good luck with your college search!
