I know of two students in our area who were accepted to UVA in the last six years. They both had excellent gpa's and stellar test scores. I know of two students in our area who were accepted to UNC in the last ten years. They both had very good gpa's and great test scores--and they were athletes.

This is not to say there weren't other students from our area who were accepted to these schools; these are just the ones that I know of.

I have heard that UNC is harder oos, however i was born in nc and my father worked for the university hospital. He also attented medical school at UVA and we still get the alumni magazines form both schools. Do you think this will help my chances at UNC and UVA?

patsandheels, I'm sorry I didn't re-read your first post to see that you live in Kansas. I'm wondering what you want to study. Sometimes that plays into the schools you want to apply to. My d applied to schools without knowing what she wanted to study. By the time she received the letters saying she was admitted, she had decided on engineering and two of the schools didn't offer engineering at all and one offered a limited selection of engineering programs.

I know it's not always possible to know what you want to study, but if you do, it might help in the decision-making process.

I love the school dearly, but in the context of your list, it's an outlier. If you're looking for a dominant sports scene or a large school, I don't think you can find that here.

Holy Cross like Boston College are Jesuit schools as is Georgetown. HC is not very religious and seeks diversity and offers good combination of academics and athletics as does larger school Northwestern.

Thanks everyone for the help, and dont worry about not re-reading to see I was from kansas sportsmama. Amykins, can you tell me how you like the curriculum at Chicago? Also, I've heard that Chicago is where fun goes to die, is that true?

Well there are a lot of amazing schools you could apply to & be very well-qualified but your college list should vary based on your interests & where you might feel more comfortable. Considering your into sports, Boston College would be an excellent option.
