Where Should I Apply?

Ok, so here is the deal:

Primary School of Choice: UCB

Secondary: anywhere(decent) where I could get a full ride.

What are my chances of getting full rides for a Chemical Engineer major, at any of the UC's besides Berkeley(that of course is out of the question) and any other decent schools.

I was always bent on Berkeley, but my brother, who is a grad student there tells me not to bother attending the school due to prestige for undergrad and try to find a place which will give me a full ride.

So here are my stats:

Russian Citizen(moved to USA in 2001)
Male
Could be considered 1/4 Middle Eastern and 3/4 Slavic
Bilingual, obviously. Learning Spanish... fairly competent.

Academics:

Unweighted GPA: 4.0 Weighted 4.27

AP and Honours: Taken:Lit 2H, Alg2H, Spanish 2H, Lit 3 AP, Calc AB, Art History AP, Span 3H, Chem H.
Next Year: Calc BC, AP Gov, Lit 4 AP, AP Span, AP Bio, AP Chem

I am ranked 1/430

SAT: Nothing to brag bout, imo, I'm retaking them
SATII: have a good chance at perfect/close to perfect in math, chem and physics

Awards/Honours
AP scholar with honor
AIME AND AMC12
Future valedictorian (if not sabotaged by an eccentric B)
Student of the month for science in 9th grade lmao... so nothing special
Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award

EC:
Member of CSF 1 year done and 1 more year to go, Chess Club 3yrs , planning to join some community service type of ec next year.
Planning to found chem club, math club, co-found science club.
Played Guitar for 3 years

Recommendations will be good (or so I HOPE lol) Essays will be acceptable.

As you can see I am not incredible, just average, I am pretty confident I could get into UCB, but I am really wondering what my chances of getting a full ride are?

Please reply and Thank YOU, in advance.

Consider the University of Florida. They are very generous

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Florida%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Florida</a></p>

For a full ride, try lower tier state schools.

I'm not sure how generous each particular school is, but you'd really stand out academically at: ASU, Cal Poly, Iowa State, Purdue, Texas Tech, etc. If not a full ride, you'd probably get significant merit aid.

dont go to those schools that world changer said- xcept 4 cal poly and purdue. asu is just a party chool, at tech everyone is so bored in west texas that all they do is spread STDs to each other (trust me i've been to lubbock over 10 times, there isnt that much to do there after a while), and iowa state is... well in iowa.

^He wasn't asking for perfect dream schools, he was looking for schools where he could possibly get a full ride. Those were just examples.

Any school is what you make of it. There are plenty of people at ASU who don't party all the time. And a boring city can be made up for by getting involved in clubs and such. This is especially true at a big school.

touche worldchanger ur right, i'm just saying that my aunt went to asu and then transferred to ut-galveston (she wanted to do physical therapy), said the school was to "riled up" for her. she lives in lubbock, and my cousin (same family) applied to tech and wyoming, and is going to wyoming in the fall because he's frankly had enough of lubbock.

Thanks guys, I checked out all of the schools mentioned above.

Do public schools, I guess primarily California ones, give full rides?
For instance I'm really interested in UCSB and UCSD, possibly but preferably not UCI, UCSC, UCM.

Ehh..the UCs are more competitive than most other state schools. On one hand, even if you only get small merit scholarships, you still get the benefit of low instate tuition.

But, if you're really deadset on getting a full-ride, you might be best off adding a couple Cal State schools to the list. Or maybe Cal Poly.
