Where should I exchange to?

Hey guys!
I'm an Australian Undergrad student looking to spend a semester (August/ September-December 2013) in the States. I'd like to get an opinion on the colleges that I'm able to exchange to. I'm pretty bright, and the economy's not so bad over here, so grades and tuition aren't an issue. What I'm looking for in a school is a place that's reasonably academic, but can also party, somewhere that's not too liberal OR conservative, and somewhere the weather doesn't get too cold. Also, I'd kinda like to stay on campus, because we don't really do that over here.

The colleges that I can exchange to are:

Arizona State University
Boston College
California State University
Georgia Institute of Technology
Northeastern University
Purdue University
State University of New York at Plattsburgh
State University of New York at Stony Brook
The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
University of Arizona
University of California
University of Connecticut
University of Illinois
University of Massachusetts
University of Richmond
University of South Carolina
University of Texas at Austin
University of Virginia (U21)
University of Washington
University of Wisconsin - Madison
University of Wyoming

So, what do you guys think?
P.S. I've also been wondering - can I join a sorority if I'm only in the country for one semester?

You would not be eligible to join a traditional sorority if you are only on campus for a semester, but you would be welcome to attend fraternity parties and events as a guest.
You have a fantastic list of schools as possibilities…you need to narrow it down further by specifying your academic interests or extracurricular activities.

You have California State University and University of California on your list - these are actually groups of universities. Are you eligible to attend any of them?

Thanks for the replies!
When I go on exchange, I’d be looking for a good music department, specifically a good music education department (I’m studying to be a music/English teacher). I may also be picking up some subjects in English Lit, Film and Television and/ or Education.

As far as extracurriculars go, somewhere that offers rowing (crew), swimming, debating and/ or choir is what I’m looking for.

And, yes, I am eligible to go to any of the campuses of UC or CSU.

Speaking only about cold, you might find these cold, but you won’t be here for the worst (J/F/M): Boston College, NEU, Purdue, SUNYs, UCONN, UIUC, UMASS, UW-M, Wyoming
