Are you a junior?

Take the SAT and ACT again…you need to work on your scores to improve choices.

What state are you in?

How much will your parents spend each year?

Your scores, your budget, and the state you live in will largely determine where you should apply.

Did you take the PSAT? how did you do? Are you a likely NA Semi finalist?

I’m not a finalist, i’m a junior, if you read what I posted above I"m in WA aka Washington State,

Ah…sorry…missed the WA part.

I didn’t ask if you’re a finalist…I asked if you’re a likely semi-finalist. You might know that based on your PSAT…what is it.

We need to know your budget…how much will your family pay?

Are you doing Running Start (or whatever it’s called in Wash State)??

I am in Running Start Student, I haven’t gotten anything in the mail so I’m probably not a semi-finalist. My mom just told me she is willing to pay as much as possible, my parents are divorced and my dad wont pay for anything.

It’s too early to get something in the mail…that’s why I asked if you’re a “likely” SF. What was your PSAT.

Your dad’s income will come into play at many of the best schools that give the best aid. If he won’t pay, then you need to carefully select schools that won’t ask for his info…AND…will give you aid that you need.

It’s nice that your mom will help…but you need to ask her what is the max that she can help per year.

Can she give $5k per year? $10k per year? $25k per year? $50k per year?

Is her income low where you might qualify for some small fed grants?

How many are in your immediate family? Has your mom remarried, do you have siblings?

2 siblings, my mom has not remarried. Most likely she will pay between $25 to $50k per year her income is not that low. I got a 55 CR, 42 math and 52 writing on PSAT, so I know I did not do well.

Ok…so it sounds like your mom has a highish income. You’ll have some choices…

Look at …

Seattle University…

University of Portland…

Western Washington…

Puget Sound…

How far away are you willing to go?

Are you going to retest?

I want to go to Boston or DC, I’m retesting in May/June

American in D.C, Northeastern in Boston. If you’re willing to look at small schools somewhat near Boston or D.C. you might find that they need the diversity you could offer more than the urban schools----Trinity and conn college in Connecticut, Lafayette, Gettysburg etc. in Pennsylvania as examples.

CORRECTION: I recently had a sit-down talk w/ my mom and she told me we are only able to pay up to $10,000, maybe even less $5,00 to 8,000… Where should I go now?

Since you are already getting credits in CC why not finish up your AA there then transfer to a WA state college as a college junior? You will automatically qualify if you keep up your GPA and the lowish SAT won’t matter at all. DC and Boston schools are some of the most expensive in the country, plus you would eat up a good portion of the budget just on travel.

You can still give it a shot next year - apply to the schools that match your stats (St. Johns, Hofstra?) and hope you win the Financial Aid lottery.
