Where should I go to college?

So I recently learned that I have been accepted to the University of Kentucky, Emory, UPenn, and Yale. I am still waiting to hear from Vanderbilt. I am struggling over the decision of where to attend school. I am still waiting on financial aid decisions from Yale, Upenn, and Emroy, so that is a major factor. At UK I was awarded the Singletary scholarship with basically pays me to attend school there. That's hard to turn down when faced with potentially $65,000 of debt a year at Yale or upenn, I guess my really question is what's better, a state university for free or paying for a school like Yale or upenn? Also, I am very interested in engineering (particularly computers and robotics) as well as medicine. If you all could contribute any information or advice that might help make this decision slightly easier I would really appreciate it.

You are very fortunate that you have so many options! Congratulations on your acceptances to these schools and your Singletary scholarship offer. My son is going to UK as a Patterson scholar. I will say that it was just impossible for him to turn down the Patterson scholarship; which is very similar to the Singletary. However, he did not bother applying to any Ivy League schools because frankly he didn’t think he could get in there; his grades are excellent but that’s about it. He was not into after school activities, not a lot of volunteer stuff, etc. Also I could not see my son going into debt for a college education when a free one was being offered. However, I have a friend who graduated from UCLA and Stanford and he says I do not understand what an Ivy League education means. He’s right, I don’t! An Ivy League education might totally be worth the debt; but you should carefully weigh the financial aid offers from all the schools and discuss things completely with your parents. Good luck!

Without the FA packages it is impossible to say. But it seems like a no-brainer that Yale is the best academically. What do the net price calculators say for each school for you?

You haven’t told us what your family can or cannot afford. Have you talked this over with them since you’re not going to any place but Kentucky if you don’t get their help?
