I want to go to law school but I'm afraid that going to Whitman wont be good enough for most LS's (specifically HYS). If I went, got a high GPA, and did 170+ on the LSAT would I have good chances? Also, is majoring in philosophy a bad idea? I want to major in philosophy simply because it interests me, but now I'm thinking I should major in engineering instead from what others are saying. Oh, and what constitutes an amazing EC? Debate, mock trial, model UN, and what else? Do sports matter?

And please don't give me that "don't worry about it now, it's too early to care" bullcrap. I heard the same **** in middle school when I was worrying about undergrad college and believed it, and now I am paying the price. PLEASE don't say the whole "blah blah blah keep an open mind". I want to go to law school more than you know.

BTW I'm a junior in HS and I don't think I can get into a top ug school because I didn't take the most rigorous courseload offered.

There are many threads on this; I suggest you search the forum. The conclusion is that it doesn’t matter what undergraduate school you go to, but rather how well you do there, what you do for EC’s, and what your LSAT score is. So go to the school that is best for you.

… what on earth could a middle school student do different to alter college chances?

OK, OP, you’ve jumped ahead of yourself here. You are still a Jr. in high school, and you’re convinced that no top universities will admit you because you haven’t taken the most rigorous curriculum offered at your high school (I infer from this that in middle school, there were a couple of math or whatever courses you did not take, which meant in 9th grade you were not in the highest track for Honors -> AP).

What you say may apply to a lesser degree than you think to the Top 30 colleges and universities. Even there, you will find lots of posts by students who took very few AP/Honors course and got into UCLA, Berkeley, and other Top 30.

My advice – don’t look back. Make the most of the rest of this year, maybe look into correspondence AP or local college courses this summer, and take the hardest courses you can in Sr. Year.

As to T-14, that is really about a 3.5+ gpa, 165+ LSAT to be well positioned. Why do you need T-14? UCLA Law not good enough for you?

It is good to shoot high, but not at the expense of realizing there are probably 100 law schools that will prepare you to practice law well.
