I am an undergraduate student studying to get a degree in an unrelated field to MT. However, I want to study MT at a great school. I am wondering first off if any colleges or universities accept transfer credits for general ed. classes if studying to get a BFA in MT. Essentially, I want to get my BFA in a decent amount if time (less than four years) since I've already spent four years at a university. Would getting a BA or a certification from a conservatory program be better then?
Also, what schools would I have most chances of getting into if I've had acting and vocal training, but little dance and piano training?

What about a grad school where you could get a MFA ?

Questions about transferring come up a lot. Here are some past threads that you may want to read:

There are also lots of transfer threads within each school sub-thread. Use the ADVANCED SEARCH function: (1) type in “transfer” under “Search by Keyword;” (2) scroll down in under “Search Forums” and select “Musical Theatre Major” under “College Major” to limit results to just MT. Make sure that you leave the default setting of “Search Titles Only” under “Search by Keyword.”

I am not an expert, but here are a few answers to your questions based on my understanding:

Many schools will accept transfer credits for Gen Ed. classes within a BFA program.

It may still take you 4 years, depending on the school.

A 2 year conservatory program may offer a quicker and equally viable path than getting another BA. A BA program is likely to take less than four more years, but may still take 3 years due to course sequence requirements.

You don’t need piano training for acceptance (but it certainly is a great skill to have in MT). There are several threads about schools where dance is less important for acceptance that you can find using the SEARCH function.

I know Sam Houston State regularly takes transfer students into their BFA program and it is possible to finish in two years. However, in order to do that you may need to have completed two years in a performing arts program at a Community or Junior College.
