Hi all,

I am an international student from Hong Kong. I've been accepted into Ohio State U and U of Minnesota, majoring in Journalism.

I really like both schools, so I can't decide where to go.

Ohio
-like the state better
-people around me told me it's a good school

Minnesota
-cheaper tuition
-better transportation
-taking calculus for a econ minor(if I don't go here, I didn't need Cal)

Where should I go???

How much cheaper is it?

Ohio is well-known as a rising college, and if the tuition is only a bit higher, it would likely be the better choice.

Wouldn’t the intermediate microeconomics courses at any university require calculus?

MN: $35000
OH: $45000

The numbers are from their website.

I just want to get a minor on general economics, I looked into both schools. OH doesn’t require Calculus, but MN does.

From the catalog here: https://courses.osu.edu/psp/hcosuct/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/COMMUNITY_ACCESS.OSR_CAT_SRCH.GBL

It looks like The Ohio State University offers three versions of intermediate economics courses:

4001.01 / 4002.01: non-calculus
4001.02 / 4002.02: with calculus
4001.03 / 4002.03: honors course with calculus

The more math-intensive versions are recommended if you are considering graduate study in economics.

I am taking Calculus now anyways. I just want to have a econ minor and journalism major. I haven’t thought about graduate study.

I just cannot decide where to go now for a better journalism program.
