I'm a senior in high school. My GPA for my first three years of high school is 4.25 (on a 4.0 scale). I plan to major in computer science. I have many ECs like i started a computer science club in high school, I was part of the rocketry team, member of science honor society, member of science olympiad, member of writing tutor club, member of red cross, many volunteer hours, did an internship over the summer for a software development company. I got a 5 on the AP Computer Science A exam, an A in the course.

I wanted to go to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne. But do you think I can go to an even better school for CS? I think UIUC is ranked 5th for CS according to US news. Do I have a shot at Carnegie (ranked 1st)? Any advice is appreciated.

O yea, and my SAT score is 2140 (only took it once), but im taking it again in a week.

Are you an Illinois resident? How much can your parents afford to spend?

If you are an IL resident, it would probably be difficult for any other school to stack up against UIUC in terms of value for the dollar. Unless, of course, your EFC is very low and you are able to get into one of the schools that really meets need without big loans. Of course, how those stack up for computer science is another matter. I would assume that Stanford must be up there…the CS mavens will undoubtedly be able to tell you. :)

Im not an illinois resident. I’m living in Virginia. And, my parents will contribute a decent amount, rest will be from loans, and a little from aid. So, the cost isn’t too big of an issue. But what do you think are the best schools for me?

Can one assume that your financial safety will be Virginia Tech?

Vtech is a dropback school, if I dont make it anywhere else because there are much better CS schools out there.
