Where should I live at UCSB?

My top school would be Berkeley but i have my doubts about getting in, so right now its looking like im going to UCSB. I am not sure where I should live though. Many people recommend living in a dorm the get the whole "experience", but I do not want to be a transfer with mainly freshman in my dorm.

Isla Vista seems like a pretty cool place to live, but it seems like I would not meet as many new people, and i also have to wonder how expensive it would be to find an apartment that close to the beach. I have also heard about UCSB having housing coops which seem like a cool middle ground, but i know nothing about it and dont want to get into something i wont like.

Any advice from transfers?

Just live at San Rafael, it’s exclusively for transfers and upperclassmen.

I’ve also been wondering the same thing. Are there any previous ucsb transfers lurking on the forums who can give their advice? I know San rafael is for transfers but has any transfer dormed in manzanita and enjoyed it?

Manzanita looks like the nicest, its the newest housing and is on the beach between ucsb and IV, but again i dont know if i should even go with the residence halls.

^^^

Yea, I was also thinking of living in the apts… But then I realized that I probably need my own room. I don’t think I can do shared rooms without going bonkers.
