Where should I look at?

I live in Boston Ma, but I want to get out and see the country!!! I have a 3.34 gpa and got 1590 on my SATs. the schools I would be applying to around here would be Bridgewater State College, UMass Amherst, UConn, Bentley, UNH, and a few other schools. What I need you to tell me is what colleges are similar to these but either in the South(Florida, Georgia), In the D.C Area, the West Coast, or the Colorado area. I also need to keep cost in mind because I don't have unlimited funds. So where can I go thats exciting, out of my area, while not putting me too far in the hole? All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

what major are you thinking of?

some schools to think about in the south are:

Virginia Tech
James Madison
NC State
UNC-Asheville
Clemson
College of Charleston
University Of Georgia
Georgia Tech
Florida State
University Of Alabama - Tuscaloosa
University Of Alabama - Birmingham

I wanted to go into some sort of business, but a strong liberal arts school is just as fine.

alright in that case look at (in order of best to worst business school reputation)

University of Richmond
James Madison University
University Of Miami
Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech
Clemson
Tennessee
Arkansas
Belmont
NC State
South Carolina
Louisiana State
Florida International
Georgia State
University Of South Florida

You may like Flagler College in St. Augustine. It’s one of the most beautiful schools in the US. Your GPA is in that range and you may like New School of Florida or Rollins College. USF and UCF may also be good options. West Georgia may be a good option too. Good Luck!

Anyone know about any west coast schools, or schools that are down by arizona?

early_college, the OP would prefer a business school and as much as I love NCF and Rollins, I would not recommend it to the OP. Belmont, Richmond and Georgia State are LAC’s that are strong in business.

West Coast Business Schools:

BYU (if you’re mormon)
University of San Diego
Santa Clara University
Chapman University

Where would I be without you Pierre? Thanks all the suggestions are really helping, planning the summer trips now

Georgia State really isn’t that great of a school to tell you the truth though. I wouldn’t look into it unless I was instate. The OP did say though that a strong liberal arts school would be just fine. Flagler doesn’t have a strong business program, so it really depends on what the OP wants more. “but a strong liberal arts school is just as fine” This makes me think that a liberal arts education may be just as good as a strong business program. I would also suggest Chapman and Pepperdine may also be a good option. Loyola Marymount is a good liberal arts school with a nice business program too.

I agree ^^

Another thing the OP mentioned is that he needs something low-cost. James Madison, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Clemson would definitely be low cost. The schools I listed on the west coast may be too expensive so look instead at Arizona, Colorado State, Cal Poly and Arizona State

all of those schools are large state schools but that’s just because they’re more affordable than expensive LAC schools, does the size of the school matter for you?

oh and I forgot to mention Georgia, Arkansas, Colorado, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia State, Alabama, Utah, LSU, NC State, and San Diego State

lots of options in the south and west

school size does not really matter to me, I took a tour at uconn and fell in love, then proceeded to go to babson and felt claustrophobic. Its mainly because most state schools cost less than private schools. I would also rather have a strong business program , but liberal arts is a secondary choice for me.

Flagler College is a great deal money wise, but thinking not a great fit for you. I think UGA would be a good reach school. It’s harder since you would be from OOS and I know people who get in with a 3.5 GPA and are instate.

I would look at U of Richmond. That seems to fit your criteria the best. Cost will be a problem though however they have good financial aid and merit scholarships.

U of Richmond is beyond a reach in my opinion, it’s VERY competitive to get into and the OP’s stats frankly don’t meet those of UR

Any schools around DC or the Carolinas?

American University
University Of Maryland - College Park
James Madison University
Clemson
University of South Carolina
NC State

I don’t mean to be discouraging anyone here but I’m concerned about the quality of recomendations I’m seeing and “maybe I’m missing something here” but OOS and a 3.34 gpa / 1590 on SATs means that many of the suggestions that have been made are reaches at very very best. For instance NC State has been mentioned several times and an OOS applicant with a higher gpa and 500 more points on the SAT would have a hard time getting accepted.

In NC I would look into Western Carolina or Queens in Charlotte.

PS: Lots of New Englanders come to NC and feel right at home.

Once again - hope I’m missing something here but didn’t want you heading down the wrong road.

ncmentor, I think the OP would definitely be competitive for a school like James Madison, Clemson, and USC. I have a 3.0 GPA from MA and was accepted at Clemson for their hardest major. Many of the other schools I mentioned (Georgia State, Chapman) are also not difficult to get in.

I left out a lot of good business schools in the areas the OP mentioned already such as Richmond, UNC etc… because the OP really doesn’t have a shot at them.
