i am a caucasian male
i go to a very competitive public high school
my academic gpa is about a 3.6
my ACT score was a 34 composite, and my SAT scores are in the 2250-2350 range
i'm taking 2 AP's (gov and econ) as a junior, and am taking AP physics, calc, and lit next year as a senior---i have taken multiple english courses every year, and have doubled up on other subjects as well
i am an editor on the school paper, and a member of the school jazz band (i play piano)
i have a radio show at the school, created a sports analysis club, and have done about 100 volunteer hours at the senior center and library
i am a member of the varsity tennis team, and have played other sports in public leagues throughout high school
i have worked as a babysitter and tennis instructor throughout high school, and am working on a novel which will be published by this time next year

where should i be looking?

i honestly have no idea where to start looking--any advice at all would be helpful
if anyone wants more information, just ask
btw, my school doesn't have class rank, and there is little to no grade inflation

well what major do you want to go for ? what state are you in ?
id say your quite solidified at most schools impressive stats

major, no idea, i live in connecticut

also, my school sends many kids every year to ivies or other top schools (about 25 so far this year out of a class of 300)--it's a good school

however, i have no idea where to begin looking, and where i have any chance at getting in

all help is greatly appreciated

come on, i know some1 out of the 86 people who have viewed this has some advice, some list of schools, some something!

so far...im not hearing many schools listed (0)
does anyone have any suggestions?
if people want more information, just post that and ill tell it--i just want to know what range of schools people think i can get in to

Well, you could list the years put on each EC...

Anyway, picking a school for someone is very difficult, as each school is very characteristic and different from one another. That might show why people are reluctant to post back...

Factors such as, do you want a 1). small or large school 2). urban or rural 3). well known school 4) school that fits your major? 5) grade inflation?

If you lived in California, it would have been easier to pick out an UC school or you.
I'd try Brown or Cornell as a reach school for you... try looking for some match/safeties.

im probably leaning towards a medium sized school, but that could definately change

probably leaning towards an urban school, but i loved cornell when i saw it visiting a friend, and thats definitely not urban

well known school would be nice, but i kind of want to hear of lesser known schools--thats why i posted

major--i have 0 idea

grade inflation at my school is very very minimal, much smaller than lots i've seen on this site. while my school doesn't rank, i'm sure that i'm somewhere up there

Yep
Northwestern

8000 students
Its right outside of Chicago (train ride away)
Great communications (writing)

World famous

go there

northwestern, uchicago, columbia, nyu would be a safetyish school for u, i like cities as well but uva really hit the spot with me, if engineer, look into Olin school of engineering in NYC, really, u can go anywhere u want to in the country if that 3.6 gpa is respectable for ivies coming from ur school, so go sit on princetonreview.com and do counseloromatic and itll suggest a buncha schools, major would help alot or even approximate school ie humanities, engineering, business...

i did counselor-o-matic and it said i didn't have any reach schools, but i don't believe that for a second

there are kids in my school who get GPAs of 4, but it's very rare. if i had to guess, i know i'm top 10%, but i don't know any more specific info for that.

in terms of the years for my EC....

a member of the school jazz band (i play piano) (grades 11 and will be 12)

created a sports analysis club (10, 11, and 12, one of the more popular clubs in the school)
have done about 100 volunteer hours at the senior center and library (9, 10, 11, and 12)
i am a member of the varsity tennis team (JV in 9, varsity in 10, 11, and 12, and my school is the 4-time defending state champs in tennis)

and am working on a novel which will be published by this time next year (9, 10, 11, and 12)

thanks a lot guys--this is really helpful

also, im willing to look all over the country--even though im on the east coast, i would definitely look at cali schools, or schools like macalester, etc.

it's actually kinda funny that northwestern was mentioned, because my brother always said he thought i should go their...any other ideas?
