Alright, so this summer I went overseas to Pakistan to volunteer at an S.O.S Children's Village for abandoned and orphaned children for an entire month. I added this to my activities but see how would they know that I worked at this place specifically ? It just says Activity Type and gives you a drop down menu to which I selected the option Community Service (Volunteer) Do I add the name of place I worked at under details and actually describe what I did in detail?

Also I received a brilliant letter of recommendation from the director at the S.O.S Children's Village. I know that they only want teacher recommendations, but is there any way that I can also send this letter out to all my colleges as well ? I would really hate for this to go to waste.

Thanks

Yes, put the description in the details.

But what about the letter of recommendation ?

Some elite schools will want/take a supplemental recommendation or third letter; some schools won’t care at all (larger public, numbers-driven schools). What kinds of schools are you looking at?

Georgetown University, George Washington, NYU, UPenn. And a few SUNY Schools. The reason I want to include it is because I think it will make me stand out a bit more to the places I am applying to.

Not necessarily. Some schools, like GT and NYU, don’t provide a provision for an additional letter of rec. (NYU offers the advice that you need at least one, and no more than two letters, period. [Instructions](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply))

UPenn will take one: http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/freshman-admission/teacher-evaluations

If you want to send it in, nobody will stop you, but many applicants don’t, and still get in. The best thing to do would be to find a way to craft an insightful essay on your experience.

If they do not allow additional LOR, don’t send them in.

Will I ruin my chances if I send it in anyway ?

Is my best chance just fitting this into my college essay somehow ?
