Where should I room?

I have been accepted to Kelley School of Business as a direct admit. I am looking for some advice on:
1. What options do I have for rooms and which one building is the best?

I would like to be as close as possible to the business school but also close to the recreational facilities. What is your recommendation?

Which building you would call the best is objective, so I’ll start with your second question. Your closest options to the business school are Northwest OR Central. Depending on the building you get, that is. Usually, Central will always give you the closer option, but there are some buildings such as Foster Magee, Foster Harper, and some McNutt where they would be almost equidistant to Kelley. For your first question, I will present you with my opinion on the neighborhoods:

Northwest:

In Northwest, you’ll find some pretty friendly and social people. Yeah, there are the occasional annoyances, but for the most part, everyone is new and trying to talk to you. This neighborhood is notorious for partying. There WILL be drunk people Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. They might come back quiet-moderately quiet, or they may come back hammered and loud as all hell. It depends on who’s on your floor. You will generally form a tight knit friendship with everyone on your floor, but it is up to you to join in on it. Yeah, people will open your door to say hi, but if your door is locked all the time, they won’t make an effort. Northwest is pretty close to the SRSC, and the shortest walk would be from Foster buildings. It takes about 5-8 minutes maximum to walk there. There are good looking guys, good looking girls, and also people who are just friendly. For the food, you have the McNutt C-Store which is a convenience store consisting of all of your dorm needs. It’s one of the best C-Stores on campus (I’d say second to Willkie’s), so that’s nice. Gresham, the main food court, gets old pretty fast, but hey, it’s dorm food. And right down the street you have Collins, which features great food.

And to make sure it’s clear, EVERYONE STUDIES. There are rumors that Northwest cares more about partying than grades, and I couldn’t disagree more. Northwest parties hard, but also works hard when it comes to homework and studying for tests. It will be pretty quiet weekdays and Sunday nights because people are doing homework.

Also if you’re looking to join the Kelley Living Learning Center, you’ll be placed with other Kelley DA’s and will live in McNutt, where the KLLC is.

Central:

Central is known as the best of both worlds at IU. You can be a party animal, but also enjoy quiet time when you want it. The people there are all friendly. However, you are more likely to encounter quiet, introverted individuals. Those people will be easily identifiable, as they will probably have their doors closed. However, like I mentioned prior, everyone is friendly. The difference between partying at Northwest and partying at Central is that on a Friday night, NW might have 75%+ people going out to parties. In Central that number might be 30-75%. It all depends on who’s on your floor. Central features the Wright C-Store which isn’t anything worth mentioning. It’s like a small gas station you find in the middle of nowhere. It’s small and gets the job done. Wright Food Court again is typical dorm food. You’ll get sick of it fast. However, they do have some pretty good chicken strips and fried chicken options not offered at NW. The room sizes are about the same in NW and Central. Central might be a little bigger though. There are floor plans on rps.indiana.edu for you to check out, as well as distances to all major places. The SRSC is about the same distance from Central as NW.

In conclusion, it’s really up to you. If you have any other questions, let me know.

thank you, that was great

:D Glad to help

Edit:

Also very useful information to know is that NW is closer to Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall. All of the athletes live in NW too. Being close is very beneficial during basketball season because it’s cold, and nearly every bus will be full. Since you’re in Kelley, most of your classes will also be close, but if you have a class in Ballentine Hall, Jordan Hall, etc. (which is very likely for freshmen), it will be a further trek than from Central.

I’m a direct admit too =)
I’m choosing central because when I visited I felt like NW was just too far away from everywhere else on campus. It felt kind of detached, but that’s just my personal opinion.
Honestly, the campus is so amazing that I think any dorm in central or NW is great

@JEM611 The proximity to Pizza X, Village Pantry, ATM’s, and Red Mango is nice too for Central :)
