I only came over here for 1 year from China. It might be late to ask now but where should I start?
I'm going to apply for college soon (maybe November). I found that I got lots of stuff to do like SAT TOEFL essay activities(I did't join any club last year). I also need to think about my major and which college is best for me.

I took SAT in June but only got 1740 (vocab is my biggest problem). I haven't taken TOEFL yet. I'm going to take TOEFL in Sep and SAT in Oct so that I can catch up EA/ED.

I am confused. Should I work on TOEFL all the time till the test day? cuz some college require
certain TOEFL score. But if my SAT score is bad then TOEFL means nothing.

About personal essay, when should I start writing? After taking the SAT test in Oct?

Also when should I decide my ED college? Or just forget ED?

Definitely join some activities at your school this year. There’s no right or wrong answer - just pick what interests you most!

You can start writing the essay whenever. There’s no harm in starting it today and working on it when you have the time. I would get started soon just to get thinking about it, but don’t feel pressured to finish it. You have plenty of time to perfect it.

Find a good SAT study guide and study hard! Take as many practice tests as possible. Getting your score up is very doable if you work hard at it. Look for some SAT vocab flash cards.

Finally, about your college and major. Spend some time thinking about what you are looking for in the college experience. If you find a school you fall in love with you can apply ED, but I would recommend applying RD and spending the extra time looking for good-fit schools to apply to. Also, that will give you time to boost your SAT and your activities record.

i agree with the post above. start writing your essay as soon as possible. senior year doesn’t get any easier, so having knocked your essay(s) out of the way is a major plus. as for the extracurricular dilemma, join some clubs at your school for whatever interests you most. colleges aren’t looking for an exact ideal student, they’re looking for driven, bright applicants.

Thanks for the advice.
Another thing is that should I try to find get involve in a sport team? I heard it helps a lot but
I’m afraid it will cost me a lot of time.
