Hey guys,
I posted a thread few days ago about where I should transfer to.
I am currently attending Georgia Tech and majoring in business.
I want to transfer to either Emory or UGA because I want to study political science.
I am a Georgian resident, so I can get the HOPE scholarship and other federal grants. Although Emory is generous in financial aid, it will still cost me around $50k while UGA around couple thousands.

My question is,
How much difference does it make between a student with obtaining the political science degree from emory and one from UGA? Is it worth to pay $50k a yr to go to Emory?

I will go to graduate school to study International Affairs, so I am thinking undergraduate prestige would not matter much...

Andrew: Between Emory @ $50,000 a year and UGa. on the Hope Scholarship, my opinion is that the Univ. of Georgia is the better choice. Many folks outside of Georgia may not realize the true quality of the undergraduate education offered at Univ. of Georgia & Georgia Tech. I know of several students in the Honors Program, as well as Foundation Fellows, at Georgia who declined Ivy League schools to attend on the Hope Scholarship and are doing/did very well when applying to graduate schools. I like Emory, and I attended Emory's graduate law school, but it is only slightly, if at all, better for undergraduate IR study than UGa., in my opinion. Princeton, Georgetown's School of Foreign Service or JHU would, however, be another matter.

I agree with icy. UGA is an excellent school and 50k is way too much to go into debt for an undergraduate degree when you have such an excellent option.

I am from florida, and I always thought GT was better than UGA, but maybe that because I wanted to do engineering before, but I know for sure both are really good and im not from georgia :)

Thank you to all,
Yes, I want to go to either Columbia or Johns Hopkins to study International Affiars.

Then, another question is
what kinds of job are offered to students with political science degree from UGA? Probably work for the GA state gov't?
Because in order to go to either Columbia or JHU, I need to have good work experiences.
So... what do you think???

or,

Is it possible to go to graduate school without work experiences?

Check the department and graduate school websites at your target schools and see what the schools and departments look for in an attractive applicant. You may not need work experience but I'm sure it's fine if you want to work between your undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Emory University's deadline for transfer applications to Goizueta Business School for Fall 2008 was February 15th, so unless you plan to apply for next year (Spring Semester 2009), the deadline has already passed.

You can still apply to the regular Emory program--the deadline is June 1st--but like the others said, $50K/year for two years is a lot of money--especially if you can't even get into your major--and Emory requires a transfer application even just to go from Emory College to Goizueta Business School.
