Where should I transfer to?

I’m currently a sophomore at Agnes Scott College. This college annihilated me and I’m looking into transferring.

Here are my stats:

Demographics: Chinese-American female from California attending a private college in Georgia

Major: Public Health
Minor: Dance (possibly Theatre)

College GPA (out of 4.0): 2.945
I failed a Music Theory class my second semester in my first year but I probably won’t major/minor in anything music-related.

High school GPA: 2.9UW/3.0W

I have no SAT/ACT

APs: World History, Music Theory, English Literature, Environmental Science, and Psychology
(school doesn’t offer IB or let students take more than 3 APs a year, don’t let freshmen take APs)

Extracurriculars (HS and College):

High school:

  • attended a very selective songwriting summer program held by the Grammys (12, summer before college)
  • Volunteer at Eating Disorder Resource Center (12)
  • Advocate for Eating Disorder Organization Project HEAL (12)
  • counselor-in-training at summer camp (11,12)
  • wrangler-in-training at summer camp (11)
  • rode horses recreationally (9,10,11,12)
  • volunteered at a horse ranch I went to (9,10,12)
  • played piano recreationally (9,10,11,12)
  • took singing lessons recreationally (12)
  • co-founder/coordinator of a club at my school (10)

College:

  • President of the Class of 2025
  • Vice President of OASIS (Organization of Asian Students in the South)
  • Social Media Chair and content creator for HerCampus college chapter
  • Member of an Acapella group and performed at concerts
  • Catalyst Leader (leadership program at my school)
  • worked at a Chick-fil-A during the summer of 2022
  • Trainee at Keens Academy (Korean music training academy hosted by SM Entertainment)
  • Awarded a $21k/year scholarship from my college

Additional Info: I was hospitalized for a week during the second semester of my first year for something pretty traumatic.

I prefer to go to a smaller college <5k people and stay in my home state of California. I would also love to go to a college with a vibrant social life and lots of parties/revelry. However, I’m open to all suggestions. I’m also not taking on any debt and don’t want to. I’m okay with either a co-ed school or a women’s college. I’m honestly kind of worried about how many of my credits will transfer since my college has college-specific requirements.

I was possibly looking into Pomona College or Scripps College but both of those are long shots and I definitely need some matches/safeties.

You might look at Occidental or Whittier if you want to stay small - or a smaller CSU campus like Channel Islands or Humboldt It may be tough though - and you might look at some of the Oregon ones - such as William & Clark or Willamette. Or Washington Schools like Puget Sound or some others.

Best of luck.

Sonoma State, CSU Channel Islands, and CSU Monterey Bay are among the smaller CSU campuses, and probably somewhat more residential than more CSU campuses (most are commuter heavy). However, only Monterey Bay has a public health type of major (collaborative health and human services), according to Search Degrees | CSU

None is highly selective, but you do need to fulfill some basic requirements (as described at Upper-Division Transfer | CSU – 60 credits* by the time of transfer, with courses in written communication, critical thinking (typically a second writing course), oral communication, and math or statistics) and have enough major preparation course work for your major. For CSU Monterey Bay’s collaborative health and human services major, the only major preparation requirement is a statistics course, although some other courses are recommended (a microeconomics course would be the most common one at other colleges); see Welcome to ASSIST for an example listing.

*For transferring to CSU, AP scores will be given credit as described at Advanced Placement (AP) | CSU . CSU Monterey Bay allows a 4 on AP statistics to count for STAT 100: Credit by Exam | California State University Monterey Bay

Can you clarify your budget?

I don’t see Pomona happening at all, and Scripps would be a very long shot. What about Mills?

Presuming you mean Mills College at Northeastern University?

Yes, Mills College @ Northeastern.

What is your budget?

Georgia tech has a really high transfer acceptance rate(around 40% according to its CDS) - I would recommend looking into it because, even though it’s primarily known for its tech departments, it has some pretty good science-oriented majors as well, including biomedical engineering.
