Thank you @turtletime and @ucbalumnus .
We will look at San Jose or San Diego State as safeties and yes we are merit hunters.

Regarding too many AP classes…we had a few admissions officers admit that taking too many APs is not something they look favorably upon…that’s just what they said. I do know a few kids taking 6 or 7 right now and they get almost no sleep and that’s pretty much all they do…not a good opportunity to show they are well rounded. So in other words these folks told us not compete with the Jones’ and those “ueber GPAs”…take a solid load of AP courses more along the lines of 3, 4 or at most 5 and run with it! Again, this is what we were briefed.

Not sure if you’re considering OOS. If so, check Pitt - she’d be almost guaranteed full tuition if she’s top 5% with those SATs. Would also be in the running for full-ride Chancellor’s Scholarship. Don’t know the details, but I believe there is also a combined program with Carnegie Mellon - one of the top CS programs in the country.

@MAB222 Thank you. We would prefer instate, but will be applying to a few out-of-state schools as well.

@seal16 OP, have you checked out UC Santa Barbara’s College of Creative Studies? It’s a school-within-a-school for exceptionally accomplished students. They do have a CS program. A nephew finished physics there – he was able to do graduate-level research beginning in his freshman year. I believe it’s a superb option for the right student, and a lot of people don’t even know the program exists.

Thank you @katliamom . I am going to look into this one. You are right. I’ve never heard of UC Santa Barbara’s College of Creative Studies. Is this something like an honor program within UCSB?

@seal16 – yes – sort of like an honors program on steroids. Harder to get into, offering greater academic flexibility and greater academic opportunities. Its tagline is A Graduate School for Undergraduates.

@katliamom Do you know where I can find stats for an accepted students for UCSB CCS?

Unfortunately, I don’t. I would just call the CCS directly (phone # in link below) with questions. I’ve heard they’re very helpful. It sounds like your daughter’s stats are similar to my nephew’s. I also have a niece who got into the program – 4.3 GPA, very, very high SATs, a few (but not many) ECs – she ultimately chose UCLA because she wanted more of a traditional program. From what you write, your daughter seems to have the stats to consider CCS seriously.

Oops, it looks like they’d prefer people email with their questions:

@katliamom Thank you. I am very excited. I learned something new today. Hopefully D will not mess up her GPA with 6 APs she takes this year.

She sounds like a winner, @seal16. You should feel very proud

^^ Yes, and it focuses on STEM folks. A friend’s S attended and had a fabulous experience.
