I posted a chances thread and did not get any replies.

I'm in NC coming up on my senior yr

SAT (580 M, 620 R, 530 W)
3.6 GPA W..
131/497 Class rank

Because of my low GPA, I have doubts about getting into NCSU engineering. If I don't, I don't know where to go.

UNC - Charlotte? not much interest, dont know about their engineering
Purdue? I could get in, but 40K a year?!
Drexel? 50+ a year, forget it.
FSU? Same deal

Every good college is out of state, and it seems paying 40K a year for purdue is way too much. I don't really know what Im asking, just if anyone has any ideas for a not too expensive good college I could get in to.

All have under 20k tuition: Texas A&M, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Colorado State, U of Colorado - Boulder, U of Delaware, UMass Amherst, U of Arizona, U Missouri - Rolla, U of Tennessee, Cal Poly, Rowan

But, none of these are even close to NC State in terms of value

bleach000, public schools in PA are the most expensive in the country. Actually, Pitt, PSU, and Temple aren't even "public." Officially, they are "state-affiliated" and receieve very little funding from the state.

I'm pretty serious about engineering, I have taken numerous electives offered by PLTW(Project Lead The Way) at my HS but I would also like to explore other careers, for example, law and architecture.

As I said, I have high doubts about getting straight into the engineering program, its highly selective, and while I'm an A/B student, I just don't think Id make it.

I'm thinking about general first year college and then going into the engineering department.

NCSU is non expensive, 14K a yr I wont have a problem with.

Have you considered UNC-Greensboro? They have a pre-engineering program whereby you take the foundation courses for two years at Greensboro and then transfer into the engineering program at NC State.
