Where to buy books?

Which is the best vendor for cheap used books? At orientation they gave a couple brochures for Ulrich's, the Michigan Union, etc.. Are there any other better options besides ebay and similar websites?

Here is a URL to a UT-Austin thread on buying textbooks. Except for the references to the University Co-op, the same generally applies to U of M as well.

I use Amazon.

Thanks. I know some of my professors now. Is it a good idea to put those course books on hold now or do should i wait until i see the syllabus?

If you know who your professors are, email them and ask what books they are requiring for their courses.

Amazon, Ebay...they're all good...anything but Ulrichs unless you just can't get it anywhere else

^ My credit card gets a 10% discount at ulrichs, so I at least prefer them to the other local shops

^ do you have TCF? or Michigan Credit Union?

10% discount??? so if you spend like $500, you'd only get $50 off...compare that to Amazon where you would probably end up spending 50% off most items.

^ Not really, most of the time the prices are very close on Amazon.

It's the first national bank of omaha.

I use Half.com, got my Calc book for $18 shipped, regular retail at $120 at the book store.

Now the ? is how to find out what books to buy and when to buy them?

Really, how do I find out what books I need? And when do I get them? Some recommend buying them after class begins so you know which ones you really NEED.

email ur professor. c'mon guys...this is college. u gotta take some initiative.

Heh... half of my professors aren't listed on Wolverine Access yet. I've sort of resigned myself to the thought of walking into class in September with no idea who will be lecturing for the rest of the semester.

If there is no instructor listed, email or call the department and ask who the instructor will be. Then contact the instructor and ask what books are required.

OK, many thanks for the suggestion.

"^ Not really, most of the time the prices are very close on Amazon.

Not if you buy it used. I got my calc book for around $60 when the retail price was like what $120 probably?

Sorry, I meant new prices. Now I can't decide where I want to order my books from, lol. They have the free Amazon Prime trial now too.
