Where to buy pillows?

Where can I buy a pillow and comforter on campus? Will there be booths selling such things during Orientation? I'd prefer to be able to see and choose the products, instead of buying through Campuscomfort.com. Any ideas? :)

I don't recall booths during Orientation, but there is a Bed, Bath & Beyond (<a href="http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/bedbathandbeyond/MapResults.aspx?order_num=-1&BRN=&MC=&WRN=&MT=&stateSearch=&LOC=42.3438875330883%3a-71.1033415995324&CT=42.3438875330883%3a-71.1033415995324%3a1%3a1&IC=42.3438875330883%3a-71.1033415995324%3a306%3aFenway&GAD1=Fenway&GAD2=401+Park+Drive&GAD3=Boston%2c+MA+02215&GCITY=Boston&GSTATE=MA&GZIP=02215&GAD4=USA&DSN=MapPoint.NA&phone=(617)+536-1090&hours=Monday-Friday%3a+9%3a00am+-+9%3a00pm+%2c+Saturday%3a+9%3a00am+-+9%3a00pm+%2c+Sunday%3a+11%3a00am+-+7%3a00pm&FTG=N&IC_O=42.3599350625432%3a-71.1021394862385%3a32%3a02139+(postal+code)%2c+Massachusetts&GAD2_O=&GAD3_O=02139+(postal+code)%2c+Massachusetts&GAD4_O=USA&GCITY_O=&GSTATE_O=&GZIP_O=&LOC_O=42.3599350625432%3a-71.1021394862385&CT_O=42.3599350625432%3a-71.1021394862385%3a3.56252816882738%3a2.67189612662054%5B/url%5D">http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/bedbathandbeyond/MapResults.aspx?order_num=-1&BRN=&MC=&WRN=&MT=&stateSearch=&LOC=42.3438875330883%3a-71.1033415995324&CT=42.3438875330883%3a-71.1033415995324%3a1%3a1&IC=42.3438875330883%3a-71.1033415995324%3a306%3aFenway&GAD1=Fenway&GAD2=401+Park+Drive&GAD3=Boston%2c+MA+02215&GCITY=Boston&GSTATE=MA&GZIP=02215&GAD4=USA&DSN=MapPoint.NA&phone=(617)+536-1090&hours=Monday-Friday%3a+9%3a00am+-+9%3a00pm+%2c+Saturday%3a+9%3a00am+-+9%3a00pm+%2c+Sunday%3a+11%3a00am+-+7%3a00pm&FTG=N&IC_O=42.3599350625432%3a-71.1021394862385%3a32%3a02139+(postal+code)%2c+Massachusetts&GAD2_O=&GAD3_O=02139+(postal+code)%2c+Massachusetts&GAD4_O=USA&GCITY_O=&GSTATE_O=&GZIP_O=&LOC_O=42.3599350625432%3a-71.1021394862385&CT_O=42.3599350625432%3a-71.1021394862385%3a3.56252816882738%3a2.67189612662054</a>) right across the river near Fenway, as well as a Target right up the road in Somerville (I can't get the map to display at the moment, sorry). The Bed, Bath & Beyond is more accessible by T.

Of course, there's also the option of Macy's or Filene's at Downtown Crossing, or Filene's home store at the Cambridgeside Galleria.

Hmm... thanks! Looks like I'll have to order online afterall. How did you get your bedding together your freshman year, Mollie?

Well, I conned my parents into driving me out (I'm from Ohio, so it's about a 12-hour drive; long, but doable), so I bought all my stuff at home and hauled it out to school.

I am basically the poster child for What Not To Do with respect to Orientation. I brought all my stuff in rather small boxes (they were all we could get from the local supermarket: boxes that held a dozen dozen eggs), so there were FOURTEEN of them. It was fine when my parents were moving me into my temporary room, but moving from my temporary to my permanent room was not super-fun.

I would definitely suggest bringing as little as possible and buying things either out here or online. Most of the stores I listed are accessible by T, and the Cambridgeside Galleria runs a free shuttle between the Kendall T stop and the mall.

And if there are boxes of things to be shipped cross-continent to campus, would you recommend shipping them timed to arrive at the start of orientation, or at the end? (Would there be somewhere to store them during?) And how do I address them: to the temporary room? Assuming he's relocated at the end of the week, if the boxes haven't arrived yet, are they likely to find their way to him even if he's moved somewhere after orientation?

One of the services that sent out "use us!" mailings offers to hold and deliver shipped boxes, is it worthwhile to use them or just take chances shipping stuff directly to campus? (I've heard mixed messages about the mail service....) And if boxes are shipped to a dorm, do they actually SHOW UP at the dorm, or does the recipient have to go somewhere to claim them (presumably with some sort of cart or something... we're talking a number of heavy boxes here...).

Thanks!

I'd say to time the shipment to arrive after he's moved into his permanent room. It will make moving easier. The boxes will arrive at the front desk of the dorm. If the boxes are addressed to his temporary room and he changes dorms, they probably will make it to him, but it would probably take longer. Or he may have to go back to his temp dorm to pick them up. I'm not entirely sure.

Well, the good thing is that if he just changes rooms within the dorm, it won't matter which room the boxes are addressed to (actually, you really don't even need to put a room number on boxes).

I would bet that, if he changes dorms, he could just let the desk of the temp dorm know about the coming packages, and they could notify him when the packages arrived. Desk staff at each dorm is usually pretty nice and accommodating.

And, by the way, the packages do go straight to the dorm's front desk, rather than going to some central location on campus.
