Where to get a private loan?

Just receive my first semester bill and my fin. aids aren't able to cover it all. I am about $500 short. Where can I get a loan with a repayment plan that let me start paying back only AFTER I graduate.

is that 500 semester?
because most loans have a 1000 minimum

$500 is like… nothing, relatively speaking. Taking out a loan for such a tiny payment would seem ridiculous, since a part time job would allow you to repay it in less than a month.

Can your parents loan you the money for like… 6 months? You can get a job, earn it back, and pay them back without interest (if they are nice parents).

Repaying it after you graduate is ridiculous. The interest you would rack up in that much time would be silly to have to pay off for such a small loan.

no, my parents don’t wanna help me. Don’t ask why. And no, I can’t get a job to do it because payment is due next month. The total cost for the college I’ll be attending is around $25k/yr (roob, board, tuition, meal plan). I am really really close.

Since 1k is the minimum, guess i’ll have to borrow that much. Now, plz, can someone who don’t wanna make judgments and have valuable info help me out?

Discover Student Loans seems to get the most good reviews.

It would be best if you could find someone to lend you the money other than your parents. If this does not work for you, contact the financial aid department in your school and see if you are able to work out a payment plan for the residual amount. Some times they are able to work with you or perhaps find a scholarship to cover the gap since is not much.

If all of the above fails and you have to get a loan, bare in mind that unless you have great credit or a co-signer, they will hit you with high interest rates and origination fees.

Ask the bursars department for the list of banks that the school works with and call and see what they are able to offer… I’ve heard that Sallie Mae will give loans to students at a high interest rate. I would really look into all the options before taking out a private loan and if you do, then just borrow the exact amount of that you need.

Good luck and make wise decisions as they will be with you for a long, long time…
